Arteta was the only one who wanted the extra touch, but after getting volleyed up in the air a few times even he stopped lingering on the ball longer than was strictly necessary.

We really require so barbed steel in midfield. Have seen Fellaini and Heitinga bossed out of games by Vidic, so they don't have it. Where will the protection for Pienaar, Arteta, Osman come from?

Before certain parties mince in, no, football is not about breaking legs, but, there has to be some team protection to ensure that the opposition do not break the legs of the better footballers in our side.

O'Brien's match reports are excellent.

If it was so pointless, then why did you bother to respond.

Nice one, do not pass 'go', do not collect $200. Go directly to somewhere away from everyone else. Lame!

I seriously forgot that it was closed. I apologize. But it was pointless because you used Arteta getting an injury on accident as a reason to get a midfield enforcer.

Don't apologise, just don't do it. Have enough filthy snides on here gunning for me without adding any more to the list.
As for the Midfield enforcer concern, it doesn't go away until we replace the best one we have had recently which was Cars. Arsenal have won Jack-shinola since letting Paddy-V go. Man Utd are half the side with no Keane. Our legendary side included Peter Reid. Their number one enforcer of all time was Sou(r)ness.
Is it any coincidence that periods of success correlate with the best enforcers in the game being present?

KBG, I reckon we have quite a few snides to be honest mate, the likes of Cahill, Heitinga & Fellaini can snide it with the best and the likes of Jagielka and Hibbert don't go easy into the tackle.

I think we got more than most, I hate to see any of our players come up against snides and not snap them but if they did then were down to ten men. We're a bit more clever than most.

It's nothing personal KGB. It's just that the example you used wasn't a very good one. I'm sorry, shouldn't have attacked you like that.

1. Our style of football has completely changed, we control far more of the ball than we ever have done under Moyes. This means we defend less and opposition teams are far more likely to bring us down and interupt our passing and probing. That's just the way it is, all the successful sides have to deal with it.

When Carsley was here we played defensive football and he was basically a 5th defender, his defensive qualities where highlighted much more because we where always on the backfoot. Put Fellaini, Neville or Heitinga in the same position and they'd also be defending and putting there foot in alot more.

2. Football as a whole is changing, the tackling is not what it once was. It's much more disiplined nowadays, teams put ten men behind the ball and hold there position. It's isn't the end to end game it was back then and teams, in my opinion, are alot less adventurous which leads to this type of football.

3. Vidic bullying Fellaini and Heitinga, I'd love to know when this was, or does a stray/accidental elbow count as bullying? Fellaini would be the biggest, baddest bully in the League if that was the case. In reality, this has never happened.

4. Where are all these midfield enforcers you speak of? I heard you mention Scott Parker? Jesus, if he's the stereotypical 'midfield enforcer' then I think we are doing okay. Michael Essien? He's a big, laid back teddy bear. Strong, quick, ridiculously athletic and a good footballer to boot, yes, but he's hardly known for his hardcore tackling. There's very few of these players about nowadays, Gennaro Gattuso is one of the few I can think of. Javier Mascherano, yes, but he's way out of our League in terms of budget.

5. Heitinga, Fellaini, or even both is more than enough for us. Did you see the Derby at Goodison? We dominated that midfield from back to front, physically outmuscled them and outplayed them on the pitch. And this was a midfield containing Chief Javier and King Stevie G.
