Australian Rules Football is what I am talking about a game of football that is invented by Autralians. Just interested to hear has anyone heard or seen anything about it?

It is much more fast paced than soccer and most aussies will tell you more interesting including me unfortunately, however I still enjoy soccer none the less.

So has anyone seen it? If you have what do you think about it?

I barrack for a club called Essendon in the AFL which is a very successful side. And is probably similar to Everton in a way with all the young kid however alot of injuries.

AFL is alot different and fairer as well, as the clubs all have budgets so no club can spend more than the other. You get you players from a draft at the end of the year so there are no signings when kids are just well kids.

Mate its the worsed game in the world,Its like a bunch of Kids running after the ball in the school yard. They even give you points for missing the the 16 foot goal for Fuc* Sak*.

Does make for some entertaining play however and it is much more tactical these days.

We do get the odd game shown over here. Interesting game, scoring system took a bit of getting used to. I don't follow any particular team the sport needs to be shown more before I can make that sort of decision.

Watched a bit of it, can't get me head around the rules though. But them boys must be v. fit.
Yer Most of them are very fit however there are some positions you have to be fitter in than others.

In easy terms there are 18 people 0n the field with 4 substitutes. AFL rotates substitutes up to 100 times per game! Which shows the intensity it is played at.

The aim is to score more than you opponent 6 points for a goal and 1 point for a behind.

And for anyone saying it is crap you only have to look at the fairness of the league and that every team is competive to see it is a good league.

Surely its not that bad when you can get an average crowd of 40,000 to every game 8 times a week 22 time a year.

Well there's no other decent spectator sport for the Aussie public to watch is there...after all they're crap at cricket, rugby, and footie

chomp chomp.

We dont need to tell the world how sportingly great we are

We just turn up.

there lies your problem at the moment.

aussie rules isn't for me, i think i would go for essendon if i had to pick, and their kit is very similar to our original blackwatch one. plus the players get refferred to as 'Bomber.....' e.g. 'Bomber Reidy' only heard that context once in football when i heard a comm. say "Gunner Merson", or was it a newsreader.

there are some big crowds go to the games though, what sort of crowds do essendon pull ? also what would be the total attendences of the games played in melbourne on a particular weekend ? i remember seeing a figure once and when you compare it to the population of the city it's a massive amount.
bad teds at the M.C.G. though, they trash the place every time there's a o.d.i. there, throwing all their shoite over the rope etc.

Not quite sure about the attendance averages, however AFL is now played in all the other states as well. Essendon along with Collingwood(Essendons liverpool) Pull in the biggest crowds.

When those 2 teams play at the MCG even if both clubs aren't playing well they still pull around 80,000 and sometimes pull in close to 100,000.

Of the eight games during the week you normally get about 200,000-300,000 fans attendng all games.
