Does anyone have one? Or has anyone bought one for anyone?

Is there much to choose between the Kindle or Sony reader or is there something even better out there?

I haven't got one yet so cant give my own opinion. But here's a good comparative review of Kindle v Sony. I think he comes out in favour - just - of the Kindle.

I have the Kindle on my iPad. Amazon has such a great selection, it's hard to beat. The Nook is supposed to be excellent as well.

Just, no.

Don't get one. There's a man who gets on the same train as me every week who has an ebook. He sits in the same place and he HATES me. He's never spoken to me, but he hates me. He's all smug and such.

I've got an ipad that I get books on and that it is superb.

It was actually for my ma.

I hear the argument for real books, but it helps with weight when you are on the move.

Hsd I'm loving the story of the ibook man. More details please!!!

Perhaps a 5 pound amazon igift voucher would soften him up a bit.

He's a smug old-ish man. He tries to look all smart as he gets on the train home from work with his ebook and gets comfortable - he must forget that every single week the train is PACKED, so he gets squashed and gets more annoyed by the moment.
But if looks could kill...and just for that I always make it my priority to sit in front of him with my ipod playing just that little bit louder. He looks at me like I'm the worst person in the world - I smile at him loads. :P

Wife has the Kindle app on her iPad she loves it.

I however have a kindle and frankly now i wouldnt be without it the thought of going back to books is frightening tbh given that i like the old style 1200 page fantasy type novels at the moment.

I would highly recomend the Kindle is a great bit of kit.

I got My Missus a kindle for her Birthday and she loves it.
I was dubious at first as she loves books and wondered whether or not she go for an e-reader but she was delighted, especially as you get around 5000 free books (old classics etc..)
Only issue is, you have to buy books from Amazon

You're right about having to buy from amazon of course but its the publishing houses that are setting to frankly stupidly high prices of some books theres no consistency sadly and i fear unless they let amazon set their own prices, long term it could harm ebook sales across the board.
