Ademola Lookman

What exactly did people expect Lookman to do ?

He came late to football in the first place and has jumped from an average first division team to a top Premiership club.

He got some first team experience, maybe earlier than he was ready, the coaches have identified some of the flaws in his game and have taken him out of the limelight and are letting him settle and learn what is necessary at the highest level.

Ademola Lookman's time will come again at Everton insists Ronald Koeman
Blues boss says he's been protecting his young star in recent weeks

Ronald Koeman says that Everton’s young striking talent, Ademola Lookman, will get more game time in the closing weeks of the season - after being an unused substitute for the Blues’ last five matches.

Lookman made an explosive start to his top flight career, scoring just three minutes after being introduced against Manchester City in January.

That came just 10 days after he had signed from Charlton Athletic for £10m.

The 19-year-old featured as a substitute in the following games at Crystal Palace and Stoke, then started three successive matches against Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

But since then he hasn’t been seen.

Koeman, however, says his time will come.

“Sometimes a young player is up and down and sometimes it’s about protecting the player,” explained the Blues boss.

“He has produced more than we expected when we signed the player and of course every training session here is intense.

“The boy will come. he will get more minutes, he will get game time.

“There are more players in front of him but it’s not because he is not training well.”

...disappointed with his performance for the U23s last night. I wanted to see him play with swagger and a smile on his face but he was poor. There could be plenty of reasons and it must be hard for a young lad to move to a new club in a new part of the country.

I was a bit concerned by his body language but I suppose a blip in form is only to be expected.

Didn't personally see any of that Eggs.

Didn't have his best game but nothing to worry about. And still got a goal.

The lad has featured more times in the first team already than any of us expected this early in his Everton career. The same could arguably be said of DCL.

His time in the first team will come again. He's always on the bench and so always involved in the matchday squad. There's no concerns.

..I'm sure you're right, Matey but he just looks on a bit of a downer to me but I probably have that wrong.

Probably the lack of game time could explain his performance?

I think he struggled to find space to run at defenders with the ball , despite it being at Goodison. As I watched the game Marcus Edwards the Spurs midfielder was easily their best player and I was thinking that Lookman could play like that , picking up balls centrally and then running at players, causing problems. Plenty of time for him yet.

Maybe he's miffed going from first-team starter getting lots of praise off Koeman, to the bench, to the U23's. Kids get annoyed.

Reassuring words from Koeman there

At least he doesn't talk all the kids down like Moyes used to

I expect him to have eclipsed Lukaku's goal total for this season by now.

Not up to the job, get rid.
