Sounds like a warning shot to me. Which you DO NOT do. We are always taught (yes, the Navy gets small-arms training) only pull your weapon if you intend to kill. What good is a warning shot going to do to fighting, probably drunk football fans? Maybe they will pull their weapons and return fire?

A moment of stupidity has effected countless lives here.

My god is there ever no violence in Italy when footie is on. if that was britian we'd be booted out of the champions league and UEFA cup, nailed on.

Terrible news though, what was that officer thinking. I didn't even know you were allowed to take real bullets to a riot I thought they used Bean bag guns and the big water cannon thing.

Oh well.
