Accepting where we are

I think that the players at the club are capable of more than we have seen so far.

I do believe that we have players badly underperforming through a lack of confidence but that they are capable of far better.

I will exclude the youngsters as it is unfair to expect them to be the ones to carry a struggling team and in fact we have seen the good form of some of them and their confidence been eroded in recent weeks. However for the future Kenny, Holgate, Davies, Baningime, DCL, Lookman and Vlasic offer real hope.

The arrival of Tosun has certainly helped fill a glaring gap in the team, the arrival of Walcott certainly would add pace. The return of Coleman apart from pace and football ability will bring leadership to the team, a trait that at present I don't see apart from possibly Rooney.

We are not so much short of talent as we are desperately short of leaders and when RK signed players in the summer that doesn't seem to have been a consideration which is ironic from a man who was a leader in every team he played.
If he had got the striker that he requested on numerous occasions, things might have been oh so different

He is far from an idiot.

Just totally unsuitable for the office of president or public life,

Would probably make a very good owner of a football club but would not be prepared to lose money.

Which therefore makes him an idiot. Well done.

As for the OP, I agree and it's a good post. That defeat to Tottenham knocked the stuffing out of me a bit. Not because I expected us to get anything out of the game, but because if ever a match could truly give you a perspective on how far behind the top 6 clubs we are, that was it. We have two options: either get bought by owners who REALLY have cash to burn ala City and Chelsea and can bankroll hundreds of millions of pounds' worth of transfers each and every window for about 4-5 windows, or come up with some kind of long-term sustainable plan. Which involves not hiring managers of Allardyce's calibre.

I know @Bungle will attempting to be onto some windup here but I absolutely accept we are mediocre and utter dirge football at the moment. That doesn’t mean I don’t love Everton it just means I hate everything about it, most of the players are gash, the manager is a joke, the owners are pathetic and the only thing keeping me going is Everton In the Community and Denise Baxendale.

Everything else can absolutely [Poor language removed]

No wind up Bryan, just frustration for many years leading to acceptance of our current position. I love Everton but sadly they're just terrible at almost everything at the moment.

Everton are a huge club and no amount of [Poor language removed], brainless football, and [Poor language removed], brainless decisions from your board will change that. IMO. Just cause you've had a terrible season doesn't mean you're gonna be subjected to Allardyce and co forever.

Welcome back mate. Watch the language eh?

City were magnificent at Manchester City. But you know that.

I said at the start of the season that Arsenal would struggle
I said that Spurs would struggle with Wembley ( which they did until recently )
When you see Arsenal 8 points off top 4 and Spurs 3 points off top 4 you realise that last summer was our big chance and we blew it.
We should have just Signed Keane Pickford , Siggy , Rooney ( which was part of the Lukaku deal ) a LB and a quality CF
The Klassen ,Sandro , Vlasic Henry money was wasted plus Barkley shafted us
All that money should have been spent on a top quality CF
We had our chance ,blew it and we will take years to recover.
Walsh and Koeman have a lot to answer for.
This bloated unbalance squad will take 3/4 years to sort out and at least 200m on top of sales to sort out of we are serious about challenging for top 4/6
I’ve a feeling the RS will implode as they won’t sustain that level of pressing every game and Chelsea are doing what Chelsea do
Shafting the manager and he’s a dead man walking and the players know it.
This was our chance and Walsh Koeman blew it

Any man who manages to get himself elected as the president of the most powerful nation on earth is no idiot
He may be sexist , racist , homophobic , and xenophobic but he is no idiot
Either is Moshiri.
He’s nearly 2 years in and I’m sure he’s made his mind up on who goes and who stays and what needs to be done.
Maybe he’s naive but he’s no mans fool and more importantly for us either is his boss.
We will see what Kronke does in the summer and how it affects Usmanovs thinking

Anyway, there'd be far less angst if we just kind of accepted where we are and stopped trying to pretend we're still something we're not, stop with the utter delusion that pours out of a good number of us. I still have hope that one day we'll get back to the top of English football, but for the time being and with the staff the club currently chose to employ I've put any of those thoughts to the back of my mind.

Good post mate.

I only quoted the above to highlight something I was chatting about with another Blue the other day and we got to talking about parallels with our current situation to that of Spurs, which is something we should all perhaps bear in mind.

In 2001, Alan Sugar sold a large chunk of his shares to ENIC International ( which is basically an investment vehicle for Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy ). I think it took them till something like 2009 or 2010 to get to the point where they held more than 70% of the shares. Since 2001, spurs have won one trophy, the League Cup.

They've been working on getting their new stadium built for about ten years now, on and off

In the eight seasons since 2001/02, their best finishes were a couple of fifth places, and it wasn't until 2009/10 that they had a fourth place finish, and, since then they've been there or thereabouts in the fight for CL places, but it's only in the last two seasons that they've hit the top four in consecutive seasons.

So, although we'd all love to be doing the same, it could take quite a few years to get competitive, and, despite having money thrown at it, we might not get there. Part of the problem with Moshiri is he seems to think money can fix everything, but it can't. What it can do though is open doors and give us an opportunity to have a stab at competing. But anyone who thinks we should, by right, be competing with the top four, has their head in the sands. Look at Spurs, it's taken them seventeen years and a few false starts to get to where they are today under their present owner, which is quite a sobering thought, and is enough to drive a man to drink !

We're $hit, and we know we are, we're $hit, and we know we are...

So you are saying I’ll be 74 before we start to compete for top 4
I’ll set my alarm and drink buckets of bleach till then.
Blue Monday my arse
Blue decades for me

I'm a bit surprised you say that mate ... mainly because you look older than 58 to be honest
