After watching Carl Frotch last night, got me thinking to how much accents can vary across the UK. So for me at least my Top 5s are:


Top 5 Favourite UK accents:

1. North West Ulster - Derry
2. Highlands Scotland - Inverness
3. North West Wales - Bangor
4. East Coast Scotland - Edinburgh
5. Mild Scouse - Southport/Formby

Bottom 5 Worst UK accents:

1. East Mids - Derby & Nottingham
2. Manchester
3. South West - Bristol & Somerset
4. Cockney East London
5. Essex

I should have added I don't have any accent at all. None whatsoever. As a consequence of living all over the place as a kid, at Uni and then with work.

Perhaps really my making a thread about accents is a secret cry for help in wanting one at any cost!

Hahaha! I live near Bristol, and it is an awful accent; "alright me baba" is much worse than "lush" though.

The Derry one (that is, Londonderry), is the most moany, whiney, hideous accent in all of these isles. Dublin accent is nice, Edinburgh also, but the Welsh is horrible as are the Western Isles accents. I can't say the general Scouse one is a favourite either.

Jesus mate Derry City accent is terrible. You must be basing this opinion on some bird you met on holiday and your memory is clouded by love , sangria , and sun cream. Go to Derry for a week and get back to me.

Any strong accent is just irritating to me.

People will inevitably have a twang and their accent will be recognisable, but when it's a really strong accent and people start pronouncing words in silly ways it just annoys me.

A light accent from the north east always makes me perk up though, because filthy.
