Absolute Legend Carlos Ancelotti

Simply saying, it was a waste of time bringing in a manager who quite obviously was going to ditch us as soon as a bigger club flashed their undies, just like it's a waste of time bringing in Grealish whose great work mostly comes to nothing due to what's ahead of him on the field.

In summary, the correlation is a severe lack of planning and strategic recruitment by the club, over multiple ownership tenures.

Your post reads that bringing in Grealish stopped us bringing in a better striker than Beto/Barry.

We finished top half. Virtually every team in the Prem has ‘internationals in every position’.

And the football has been much worse at times since..
We were top early on and still top 3 heading into Christmas, and fell away terrible nad in the new year to miss European football. He saw the crash coming and ran.

Arguably it did if the manager was complaining about only having £30m to spend and we're spending loads on his wages and whatever fee was paid.

But the point it we need him and strikers, not just him alone.

Silly thinking by the club as usual.

We got Grealish on loan and spent £30m on a striker.

The fact that striker is rubbish has nothing to do with us signing Grealish on loan.

Of course! You should only ever recruit players at or below the level of the other players in your team. It's management 101.

It was fuzzy thinking.

A great horses for courses manager who gets the best out of his hand by being ultra flexible with his tactics. 20/21 season made me fancy Everton again

Libertarian when it comes to attacking, pick a formation that puts the best players in their best positions and then allow them to express themselves. Jameth Gomes Allan and Digne pulling the strings for Richy and DCL... Cor yes please

Defensively however we were a mess. Keane and Mina possibly the least mobile central defensive partnership in the clubs history. If we couldn't retain the ball up the pitch we had to drop back and defend our six yard box. Carlo has spoken openly about how the lack of good defenders essentially determined our style of play in the end.

We were 4 points off top four with 6 games to play that season.

Genius in my eyes
Great post. I'd sort of forgotten we only faded late.

In baseball the saying is something like this. A good coach makes you 10% better. A bad coach, 50% worse. I'd like to see Dyche, Stone, and Woan at Bayern to test that theory.
