Well its 24 hours later, and I am still not able to get over how bad we performed last night. That was perhaps the worst performance I have ever seen from an Everton team. There are several things that I would like to point out from what I saw last night. First of all, we are crying out for a DEFENSIVE midfielder to start every game. With Fellaini and Osman in the middle we have two players who like to get forward, leaving a massive gap in the midfield when we lose the ball. One of the reasons why we were successful last year was that we could go on the attack, and if we lost the ball we could rely on Carsley to break down or delay our opponents attack. Castillo hasnt done alot wrong from what I have seen of him, lets just give him a good run in the side. Second of all, it is time to drop Arteta. He doesn't look interested anymore, and his deliveries from set pieces, which used to be his biggest asset, are now dreadful. He is now our vice captain, and if he can't motivate himself to play for us, how is he supposed to motivate the rest of the team? And finally, has anyone noticed Anichebe's body language when he comes on as a sub? Like Arteta, he just doesn't look interested at all. When Vaughan comes on he chases down defenders, makes challenges, and Anichebe strolls round the pitch, simply not good enough!
And on another note, two players I think should be added to the 'ones that got away' list are Ryan Taylor and Lee Cattermole. Taylor looked solid at the back, and going forward his deliveries were superb, especially the corner were Howard made the save from Scharner. And Cattermole yesterday is exactly the type of midfielder we need. Young, strong in the tackle and good going forward. He bossed the game last night. Wigan paid 2 million, an absolute steal!
