Player Valuation: Free Transfer
Ok, so its like 4.30 am and I can't sleep because internet, and I was thinking about possible line-ups for next season, and I thought of this one which had me quite excited...

Obviously it's just theorycraft, but this line-up would have 9 players under 25 at the start of the season - considering we had one of the oldest average starting XI's this season (and it showed) is pretty good - and I imagine with a few years of premier league experience as a team, could win the league in say 2018/19

---------------------JOEL----------------------
------BROWNING STONES GALLOWAY------
COLEMAN---------------------------GARBUTT
-------------MCCARTHY BESIC---------------
-------------------BARKELY-------------------
-------------DEULOFEU LUKAKU-------------

So yeah, obviously keeping talents in the summer is a must, and bringing Deulofeu back permanently (I like to pretend like there is a srs chance - would happily sell Mirallas if it funded the move btw)

I think as a club investing time and patience in a team like this is the best course we can take, without big money looking likely to come in, it may be our only chance, and I think if all these players develop into what we expect/hope they will, this could be a great great team :)

And surprisingly, its not completely unrealistic!

Anyway, i'm going to sleep now, bye.

Just give you your first like there mate. That team wouldn't win the league:)

He's got a point though, it wouldn't win the league next season obviously, but if we manage to keep them together, and if they all fully reach their potential it might at least get us closer to it. Two very very big ifs there, so the odds aren't looking great, but it is possible, and like the OP I also think this is probably our best chance of getting back to the top until we win the lottery or get an ambitious board.

Stones, Lukaku, Deulofeu (if we got him obviously), Barkley are all players who have the potential to become top players. And the rest of the players in that starting XI can all become quite good too, or already are (Coleman, McCarthy).

Too much coffee before bed does funny things to people. What title exactly is that team going to win?

It's a good side no question. But it's not going to win us the league with the addition of 1 player who we have already had. We would need to spend obscene amounts to win the league, or have a player like Suarez like that lot did:)

It's a good starting point. Add 2/3 world class players to it and it probably could. Doubt we'll be adding those kind of players though, and so we'll probably lose some our better players.

.....there's nothing wrong with aspiration, Matey, the side in the mid 80s came from nowhere.

There are too many questionmarks over that team ( mainly the younger lads, who we don't know enough about ) for it to be title winning mate, plus you'd need six or seven other equally good players to cover injuries and loss of form. But, if the likes of Galloway and Browning turn out to be top class and we can add a few more then there's nothing wrong with a bit of optimism.
