A positive outlook for next season: what do you think?

Well I'm as gutted as anyone that we somehow didn't win tonight (and tbh, the 2 games before that).

However, I think we can look to next season (this season is over barring 4 wins and a very poor finish from Villa) with a great deal of optimism. I honestly think that, if we can get some luck with injuries, we can make a big challenge for 4th. Resilience is there to an extent, but some of the games we've chucked away this year have been absolutely gutting.

What do you think? What do you think we realistically need in the summer?

a top class striker is essential.saha isnt getting any younger and i just dont rate the yak.
a back up keeper and lb is secondary.

I've always seen Everton as a team with a lot of potential, almost the sleeping giants of the Prem. You were, after all, the last team to break the top 4 (2005, was it?). With Spurs or Man City with a good chance of breaking the top 4 I think the whole dynamic of the league will change and we'll see a few other clubs going for it. I think your problem is, and I don't mean to sound insulting, that you seem to have kinda accepted that you won't get a CL spot. But you have some great players that can carry your team. You still have a chance to overtake Villa, get 7th and play in Europe, which will give you an international name even if it isn't CL you'll be playing. As I say, the great potential is there - use it!

The unfortunate thing about next season is that it's next season. By the time it starts, Man City will be in the Champions League and have signed the entire squads of half the world's football teams. Arsenal will be as good as they were at the start of the season with Fabregas and Van Persie scoring or assisting every single game. Chelsea and Man United may take a bit of time to sort out their formations, but you can't really see them struggling to finish in the top four. Meanwhile, we'll sign a couple of players who are quite good, draw the first game of the season and not really make any progress.

That's horribly hard to argue against.

Basically we just need to employ 11 thugs who will break all the opposition teams legs.

No wait, i'm not an idiot or a wum so forget that idea.

Hard to say what we will do next season to be honest.

Lets face it, as much as we'd love to have a fully fit squad all season that just doesn't happen in todays game, just need to hope things aren't as ridiculous as this season.

We have proven that we can take on the best teams and win, let we've proven we can take on the worst teams and not win.

We definatly have every chance of fighting for fourth (or better) but we need to find some consistency, but you can't just magic that up from nowhere.

There are probably many theories as to why we drop so many points we seemingly shouldn't of done, hard to tell which ones are actually right though.

But we have more reasons to be positive next season than negative.

Hmm...

I understand that it doesn't feel right City basically paying their way into Europe, but at the same time, maybe we can see other teams next season, teams with potential like Villa and, as I said, Everton, giving it a good try.

Also, City will probably **** it up in Europe next season, knowing them...
