A challenger to Howard

Mucha vs Stoke is a better choice than Howard vs Stoke. Howard doesn't like challenging aerially at the best of times. At least Mucha wont mind possibly punching Crouch in the head.

I think he should be the first option for the team tbh, the only thing that he has to improve is getting to the ball on corners (Howard got the same problem) and sometimes hold the ball instead of punching it. His positioning and ability to rush out has been really good, far better than what I've seen from Howard.

"Sometimes" is a drastic understatement. Still, if Everton can attract someone better than Howard, who is 34, then it's time for him to move on.

Punching is a regular part of goalkeeping for most European and South American keepers, it doesn't seem to be something that British and North American keepers do as much. Don't know whether its because they lack the confidence to punch, or whether it is not coached as much . No harm in punching, its a good option in lots of situations.

Plenty of harm in punching easily catch-able balls.

I've always thought Howard has done a decent job, like most keepers he drops a clanger every now and then, in fact, make that ALL keepers!
I do agree that he is not untouchable though. Like the idea of Schmeichel or Lindegaard joining but not to the detrement of other signings like a good CB (lescott, lovren) good CM (fer, capoue, mccarthy) and/or a striker(s) (vossen, pelle, soriano, rvw)

Oddly enough this is why I would stick with Howard. Much made two great blocks against City but when it came to dealing with crosses I thought he was even worse than Howard. That pathetic punch he did just before we scored the second was terrible and just in general he didnt seem to be the confident.

They are two very similar keepers arent they, can't say either one is any better than the other

....I think a keeper is certainly on Moyes shopping list and he seemed very keen on Buckland, but when funds are low its a matter of priority and that might lie in other positions for a season or two. Also, Howard seems increasingly clear that he wants to return to the USA.
