I've been alive for all of these teams/era's, for me this is the most talented squad, but we have nowhere near the heart or charachter of the teams that have gone before.

If this team collapses it will be a crying shame.

That team was so, so close.

Unfortunately we had that absolute failure in Kenwright as a chairman and he failed to back the club.

That team was 1 or 2 players away from being a major force. Not Moyes' biggest fan but in that period he was badly let down by Kenwright and others at the top and you see his frustration in the years that came after.

When Kenwright does eventually leave the club for good he deserves to be remembered as an utter failure.

Also without turning it into a board debate was the complete lack of backing Moyes got in the 09/10 pre-season was a disgrace, he was afforded very little until the Lescott money came in.

The most important word here is 'Team'.
Moyes had the best teams.

Martinez season 1 played some of our best football in years.
However, that team has dissolved under his leadership and is a collection of inconsistent individuals.

Our current squad seem to lack confidence and leadership.
Find these two elements and I think many would hold them in higher esteem.

RM inherited a good 'team', but too many of his signings are not the standard to improve that team.

07-08 season we were very good and had a strong squad. However Martinez first season in charge and the players he brought in on loan was excellent, into Europa league and did well that season.

aye, it's easy to get bogged down by the difference between "team", "side" and "squad" and then you've got the different seasons and questions of potential.

Agree with you Moyes had the best teams, and for that reason in a Roundrobin tournament the best 11 from the 07-09 era would beat the best Martinez ever put out. It was more consistent and had a better attitude.

The pre-season before was just as bad, leading us on to believing we had a chance of getting Moutinho.

'Watch this space'

Quite amazing the fat tit is still lurking around the club all these years later.

I voted 07 -09 originally and have again.

The opposition was better back then too with all English CL final.

That side would win something against the sides today. Moyes built a superb side with only a few tweaks required to make it truly special imo.

I went 04/05 for breaking the sky club monopoly.

That was a great side, really underrated by a lot of blues (you're the only one to vote for it so far...crazy). We had a proper attitude and an iron will to win. Loved all those 1-0's. Rooney left the season before, and Gravesen left in the middle of it...yet we still managed 4th. Proper team that was.

Amazing what a bit of spirit and fight can achieve.
