6 + 2 Point Deductions

Or will it be less about PL rules, and more ‘Everton spent more money than they were allowed to during a season in which Burnley were relegated, this put Burnley at a disadvantage in their efforts to avoid relegation, and we want compensating for that’?
Surely even the quickest of quick glances would show that, while we may have ‘spent more money than we were allowed to’, absolutely none of that money was going on the playing squad. We are the lowest spenders in the league in that regard. It’s pretty much common knowledge at this stage that no new stadium, no real PSR issues. Also Everton have already been punished for ‘spending more than we were allowed to’. We can’t be punished twice. Honestly this whole thing seems very silly, but it’s Everton so I’m sure we’ll get shafted in the end.

Let's hope Burnley finish third and then Super Frank Lampard's Coventry City FC bum them out of the playoffs.
This whole notion that we have spent an absurd amount of money in comparison to other clubs is a farce. We have wasted money and used it unwisely, but the league were very wishy washy during the Covid era and confused everyone in regards to spending. Then we got absolutely shafted on allowances while Man United get away scot free on all fronts with allowances we should have gotten. We have also been more of a sellers club for a while. Burnley can burn in the lower leagues. We were a scapegoat and clubs tried to take advantage of the situation.

I honestly don’t know how to respond to this, how the process will go or how things are likely to work out.

First thing to say is my understanding is this is before a PL independent commission again and not a court - so there is no rule of law at play here, if my understanding is right. It’s the kangaroo court making the whole thing up again this will be subject to.

Secondly given what City have done to ATP rules and Leicester did with jurisdiction, I’m really disappointed we are engaging in this process and not trying to drive a truck through the obvious loop holes that exist in these rules. They are, there, particularly here in this case - which is a subset of a weird case they are making up.

To my mind this is the third time we will be punished for the same offence, first was the points deduction, second was the lost revenue in placement money and now this.

Sorry no, the club needs to grow a pair and call out this BS and fight it tooth and nail. Leicester and City have shown the way.
The club does need to call this out. Once again we are being used, or being allowed to be used, as a scapegoat for footballs financial governance ills.

TFG wrote a letter of protest to UEFA following refereeing of the recent Roma/Porto game.

When you consider the legal career of Marc Watts, you'd imagine that this is very much something both he and TFG would want to get their teeth into on our behalf.

It would be interesting to know the sort of ballpark figure for "compensation' that we might be liable for here, and what are the implications for further claims/liabilities if Burnleys claim is upheld.

Kinnear is also in an interesting position here to say the least.

This must be what Moyes meant by the PSR "bill to pay".

No corporate hospitality for anyone at Burnley when / if they visit Bramley Moore. Offer them leftover pies from the Southampton game at GP.

Anyone recall what WHU had to weigh out over the Tevez stuff? Nearest to a precident I can think of (fielding a stronger team than they were allowed to - albeit for different reasons) resulting in cause for unfair advantage and loss (relegation)

Actually going to google it’s as I wouldn’t be suprised if these scruffy Burnley whoppers were involved in that too.

edit - £20m to Sheff Wed. Ooof.

We had loads of 'allowances'.

From what I recall, in the wind-up of the 2nd charge, the Premier League accepted that we had acted in good faith, and that there was no sporting advantage gained. I'm open to correction there.

Effectively we got two points deductions and lost placement revenue due to what might be termed as unintentional accounting errors, which took place against the outbreak of war in Ukraine which we should apparently have known about in advance.

They can say we broke the rules, but we have already had three punishments and now face a fourth. Its not as if we targeted Burnley and plotted their relegation. They did that themselves.

16 points we finished above them…not by a single point or a goal. 16 points…so how the hell did WE get them relegated.

Pricks. We should counter sue them for Deformation of character…as the whole idea is we cheated.

I believe it's for 21/22. We finished 4 points above them, they went down. In October 23, we were docked 10 points for our 21/22 breach, it was eventually reduced to 6. So I guess the argument is that had we been docked 6 points in 21/22, we'd have went down.

Think it's still a load of crap, myself.
