Brendan Rodgers reckons in an interview with The Mail yesterday (http://tinyurl.com/3tjcgn7) that the Premiership is now a four tier competition. He only states that Swansea are in the bottom tier but it got me thinking, where are we if that structure exisited as four mini leagues of 5? And what's the criteria? Ambition? History? Size of club?

Bit of a headwrecker if you're arsed kickin' it round ya bonce.

2nd Tier.

1st - e.g. Champions League/Title contenders.

Manchester United
Manchester City
Chelsea
Arsenal
Liverpool
Tottenham Hotspur

2nd - Basically 6th-place is an achievement type of clubs.

Everton
Aston Villa
Fulham
Stoke
Sunderland

3rd - Perennial mid-table, no danger at all of really going down under usual circumstances.

Bolton
Blackburn

4th - The established or current clubs with a clear danger of relegation but could easily push mid-table too.

Newcastle
West Brom
Wolves
Wigan

5th - The newly promoted clubs.

Swansea
QPR
Norwich

If it were four mini leagues, just combine 4th and 5th and you're done.

So Top tier is: Manchesters, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spuds maybe?
2nd Tier: Everton, Bolton, Villa, RS, Barcodes?
3rd Tier: Baggies, Sunderland, Stoke, Wolves,Fulham?
4th Tier: Norwich, QPR, Swansea, Blackburn, Wigan?

Went with the 4 mini leagues suggestion.

The top tier is well too big there Tubey. There's a clear gap between the likes of United and Chelsea, and Liverpool and Spurs.

I'd say it's more like:

1.) Title Contenders

United
City
Chelsea

2.) Champions League Contenders

Arsenal
Liverpool
Spurs

3.) Europa League Contenders

Everton
Fulham
Aston Villa

4.) Mid-table

Stoke
Bolton
Sunderland
Newcastle
West Brom

5.) Relegation Battlers

Wigan
Wolves
Norwich
QPR
Blackburn
Swansea

3 tiers are more realistic (top 4-5) (next 3-4) - the rest (of which the newcomers are most likely to struggle). Only The RS, Spurs (and we hope Everton) seem capable of achieving a breakthrough into the lower reaches of the 'Top 4'). No one would be terribly surprised if any of about 10-11 teams got relegated, or at the very least struggled all season.

FWIW I am delighted that our game at Spurs was postponed. We've dodged a potential bullet in having a tough game delayed. If we can capitalise on the opportunity that the next 4 league (and one Cup game) has given us - from a clean start - it could have a significant effect on the progress of the team. QPR, Blackburn (a), Villa, Wigan - couldn't ask for a better chance to make a breakthrough.

It wouldnt matter if we were in tier 1 anyway as no one takes any notice of us untill we lose when we win nothing is hardly said:P,but think we would be top of tier 2 using the usual 3 tier method that is used normally

Top: Man U, Man C, Arsenal, L'pool, Chelsea
second: Us, Villa, Spurs, Sunderland, Fulham (maybe)

don't care about the rest

You could subdivide that 1st tier, but I think it's fair to say that we're a tier beneath those top six at the moment. They've all outperformed us over the last couple of years, they've all got vastly more money & resources, and we'd be doing well to finish ahead of any of them.

The worrying thing is that several teams in the same tier as us - the Stokes and the Sunderlands - are easily outmuscling us in the transfer market and are building up strong looking squads. The battle for Europe could be more competitive than ever this year.
