4 lane motorways

Do you know how to correctly drive on a 4 line motorway?

Maybe it's because motorway driving isn't included in a driving test? People just don't get it ...
I can understand bad driving, some people just aren't as good at driving as other people but how dumb do you need to be to sit behind loads of slow moving cars when there's clearly 3 almost empty lanes to your left?

I do take satisfaction in moving out from the "slow lane" into the 3rd, to overtake the utter tool sat in lane 2 doing 60, then indicate clearly as I move past their front and back into the "slow lane" once past, just to drop a hint about the contempt I hold to the other human's suboptimal driving.

Then I allow myself a little smirk.

Didn't take much summoning...

Aren't most 4 lane stretches of motorway 'smart'?

I saw a sign for roadworks on the M5 the other day which boasted they were; "Installing New Emergency Areas" but shouldn't the sign have said; "Putting Back Emergency Areas We Stupidly And Selfishly Removed For Personal Financial Gain Before The Contracts Were Cancelled, Which Resulted In Injury And Death To People Who Otherwise Would Have Been Safe."

I show my contempt by indicating to overtake but refusing to do so as I move back to where they should be ...

Spot on mate.

I broke down on a “ smart motorway “ a few years back with my lad in the van with me.

It’s an incredibly scary experience. The feeling of shear panic you experience when you realise where you’re about to stop.

I made the informed decision, that it was better to wreck the engine and try to get to the nearest lay-by, rather than stay where we were.

I think having to slow down enough to read all that on motorway sign is in itself a hazard tbh.

Drive between Milwaukee and Chicago and then complain about UK roads.
No rules about filtering to the slow lane.
Slow is empty a lot of the time.
People will be alone and in the fast lane going below the speed limit.
HGVs will occupy all the lanes going similar speeds.
People thinking signaling gives them the right to change lanes rather than a warning of a future maneuver

People just driving slow in the passing lane does my head in. It doesn't help that the number of semi-trucks on American highways has grown every year for like the last 20 years. Virginia is hilly and two trucks trying to overtake each other on a hill can back up traffic for a mile or two. We need a separate interstate solely for commerce.

Just shoot them, mate.

Have been a passenger in a car on this stretch of road from Rockford to Milwaukee to go to a Bucks game during some heavy snow. Cars spun out and crashed all along the way.
