A guy i work with is a complete pikey and steals anything, and his latest thing is taking food out of a skip from the cash and carry near work.

Most of its alright, all sealed up but slightly out of date, still eatable though.

Had some monster munch and custard creams at work lately, lovely jubbly.

But he's now just knocked on my door at home and given me a bag containing 26 tins of spaghetti hoops which are 2 months out of date.

I guess they should be alright, stuff like that keeps for a while i think.

But other than spaghetti hoops on toast for a whole month what else can i do with them?

Would you eat out of date food from a skip?

We call it dumpster diving and its illegal in some states.........but it is sickening the amount of good stuff that is thrown away. Same goes for department stores that slash perfectly good clothes and throw them away because they are last years fashion, but they don't want no one else to use them. Why not donate them to homeless shelter or battered women ones?

Its the era of waste.

we send the threads that are out of season over to oz and nz due to seasons being opposite, a bloke pushes them there on a trolly which explains them being 20 years and 1 season behind in the fashion stakes.

I know a Romanian family who do very similar. They are always in skips or bins. I was in KFC the other week, and they were going from table to table taking stuff from peoples leftovers. They even took stuff from the bin on the way out. :dodgy:

we used to do it at eden vale when we were at school, chippy dinner then dessert from the skip, placed there by 1 of the lads dads when he saw us coming, ski yoghurts...fantastico

then a loosie an a match from the shop with a can of dandelion and burdock for the walk home to watch the sullivans, we had about an hour and half for our dinner.

Working on Food TV show, we have what we call 'market day'. Around every couple of weeks, depending on what they are filming the contestants cooking we get to take home the stuff they don't use. I always score things like garlic, ginger, tomatoes, loads of vegies and herbs. This week I got duck eggs, quail eggs, 2 racks of lamb, a freaking giant steak I'm savouring and some king prawns I'm going to fry up with some lemon and chilli. In the past Ive taken home rabbit, quail, beef, lamb, chicken, some ribs which were sensational, salmon and a ham which lasted us three months.

Anything left goes to Oz Harvest, a company that feeds the homeless.
