I think this is a going to be an absolutely belting World Cup.

Can't wait for England to get games in Cali and games to kick off at 4am

Either way, would love to be there for this!

An illogical assumption. Even large countries can have smaller areas in. Eg. Canada - world cup could be held in Eg Ontario.

The Qatar one us laughable and shouldn't be played. I'd be quite happy if we didn't qualify or if we boycotted it.

Don't know much about my country, I see. Canada, let alone Ontario, doesn't have anywhere near the number of stadia sufficiently large enough to stage a World Cup on its own without some major upgrades.

I know a bit. Lovely country, been to Montreal, Quebec and Halifax. Even enjoyed going off piste in a trek through Nova Scotia's woodlands. My brother and his French Canadian family have lived there since the early 80s (he's high up in national security there so watch it!)

Anyhoos - neither had Qatar, but my point being it can bring in the investment and infrastructure.

Alot of the investment and infrastructure goes to corruption and waste. Look at Brazil post 2014...

I don't disagree. It's almost certainly why countries show an interest in staging such things, just so those people at the top get first dibs on what's on offer.

I am under no illusions that the UK are in the same boat, but over centuries we have become masters of deception and hiding such details so get away with it better than some.
