Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
Moyes has said recently that this is the best squad he's had during his time with the club, although obviously they havn't surpassed the achievement of the 2005 squad in finishing 4th.

Which do you think is better?

This year. The prem is alot tougher than it was 2 years ago. Plus we are playing alot more matches.

bit flukey that 4th place season as we hardly won a game in the second part of the season. 4-5-1 was very new back then and it proved effective but the squad was very limited and had no depth.

Pistone was a starter for god sakes.

The champions league was beyond us then - and our coefficient got us drawn with eventual semi-finalists Villareal.

This season we have depth, a better first eleven, are handling europe at the same time and improving our seeding in europe.

Now if we did ever finish in fourth place, we stand a half decent chance of actually winning the qualifying game.

True that mate, we got 61 points that season i think, i do remember though that at the new year mark we had collected 40 points, we only accumulated 21 in the second half of the season.
If we could manage it again i'm positive the outcome would be different.

Yeah was an odd season, we wernt up to much after Graveson left, it was as if we'd run out of steam by christmas, yet still qualified for the champions league qualifiers. This team is much better, it would have played that team off the park.

Bruce: he is the Moyesiah, he speaketh the truth, believe(y)

i'm confused, which seasons are we comparing. this is the 07/08 season, and we made the top 4 in the 04/05 season, so shouldn't it be 07 v 04, or 08 v 05.

Martyn (legend and one our best ever goalkeepers)

Hibbert - Weir - Stubbs - Pistone

Osman (his best ever season) - Carsley - Gravesen (then Arteta) - Kilbane

Cahill (outstanding debut season)

Bent

Our squad had absolutely fantastic spirit and it was a wonderful season not for the quality of our performances, although in a couple of games we really turned it on (Villa away, Crystal Palace at home) but for the fact that we defied all odds and that every single player involved wanted to give 120%. We were lucky that every player was on top of their game for most of the season including Grav, Ossie, Cahill and Bent. Stubbs was a rock.

But we lacked quality when it came to the crunch. The fact that our left hand side was composed of Kilbane and Pistone is testament to that. Now we've got;

Howard

Neville - Yobo - Lescott - Baines

Arteta - Osman - Carsley - Pienaar

Cahill

Yakubu

The left side (first choice left side) is infinitely better, Osman is benefitting from the better midfielders around him, Carsley is in the form of his life, Cahill is scoring goals again, and we have an absolute goal machine upfront in Yakubu.
We are alot better as a team - but the league has improved so much that it hasn't showed.

I think to sum up the two teams you just have to look on the bench,or in the stands. the likes of AJ,big vic, grav all on the bench an people like vaughny, hibbo and others all sitting in the stands.just shown our strength in the squad.

I think the football this team play is a lot better and we look like beating teams 2-3 nil each week an not hoping 1-0 will do.

If we actually manage 4 wins against the likes of Man U, Arsenal, Bolton and Middlesbrough, we would be on 42 points by New year point!

Although I don't think we need to reach that points by new year, we had a weak finish only manage 21 points in the second half of that season, I think with current team we would have a much stronger 2nd half of the season!

I think by new year if we manage to score 36~42 points, we could reach a total of 66~76 points by the end of season!

its a game of two halves...

its a game of two halves...

I know but that why I am saying our current squad would have stronger finish than 3 years ago, we also has improve our finish on the final 6 games of the season!

That's why judging the current form and strength of the squad we could finish around that points level!
