Remember this game so well!! Was at the game with me Dad, brother, sister and a mate, all crammed together stood about level with the goal line at the end we scored. It was flippin' sweltering and about five minutes after half time my sister decided she was feeling faint and was about to be sick! My Dad said he would take her down the steps out of the sun, and off they went! In his words "as we got to the bottom of the steps there was this bloody great roar, and I knew that I had just missed the first goal against that shower at Wembley!!" He'd been watching Everton since after the war, and I'm not quite sure he ever forgave my sister for missing that goal!
On a slightly different note he died eleven years ago today, he'd love what's going on at Everton at the moment!
One of many great memories of going to the game with him!! Happy times!

Sounds like a wonderful father and a great blue my son. God bless you both.

My dad and his mates ritually drank in the Royal Standard on a Saturday when we were away if they decided not to travel, but at half time they would leave the pub (8 pints in) and relocate to our kitchen and Radio Merseyside/City was the place to be and I well remember the roar from our kitchen when Sharp/Hansen/Grobelaar scored. My dad and Billy Robinson, may God rest their souls, were bouncing up and down like lunatics when that goal went in. At full time Billy grabbed me (I was 7) and said "these are the times, lad!" He was so right. I miss him and my dad so much, that afternoon even though we were far removed from the action I knew from their reactions to the radio that things had changed.

There is a real tinge of Sadness with this thread we arrived at the game winners again having won the cup .
I went to the cup final with my dad and we had some of the best seats in the house my present to do him for bringing me up a blue it was his last ever game.
I Could not really get excited about the charity shield but this was like the dawn of a new era the blues were back in town.

What a weekend that was. My mate and his brother (both Blues) worked in Eastbourne. There was a bit of a Scouse contingent down there in those days. My mates brother was mates with 2 RS (good lads to be fair). I got home from 2 weeks in Corfu on the Thursday, travelled to Eastbourne on Friday. Got smashed there. We all got the train to Wembley on the Saturday. Watched us turn them over. And thought to myself, hmmm, "we're looking good here". Met the RS lads after match and all trained it back to Eastbourne. At Victoria Station there was a big dust up. Cockneys waiting for 'scousers'. I know its corny like, but Blues & Reds joined up to see em off. Stayed out of the way myself like (haha).
Then back to Eastbourne to get smashed all over again!! Travelled home Sunday after a large cooked brekkie!! Great days, great team!
