13 years since...Collina denied Everton's CL-GS dream

What a shocking decision that was. Still hurts...




Exactly 13 years ago today, we lost the tie against Villareal in CL final qualification round, and Collina disallowed Ferguson's goal (when the game was 1-1) which could have seen us through to GS after ET. What a shame. Just popped up on my yt channel and there I saw the date.

Villarreal went on to make the semi finals that year and weirdly only scored 8 goals in 12 games from the group stage on. They topped the group with 3 scored and 1 allowed. Not saying we would have gone that deep but it is a shame that we didn't get a chance at least to get to the knockouts.

That's the day I realised that there isn't a level playing field, my burning interest in football died and I became a casual half interested observer.

Maybe one day it will reignite if it becomes an honest competition again. (As if).

Everything about that whole thing stinks, from the draw itself when Moyes accused them of fixing it using hot balls, and didn't get punished in my opinion they didn't punish him as it could have led to an investigation, we ended up playing the best team in the draw (eventual semi final), that ref coming out of retirement for one game and disallowing a good goal. But by far my biggest issue with the whole debacle was how quiet the club were, imigine if the exact same thing happened Liverpool they'd have been screaming from the rafters right down from the owners to the tea lady and fans and rightly so, we should have screamed for interpol to get involved everyone can see there was an agenda to keep us out with uefa not wanting 5 English teams in the competition.
