Something dawned on me before. Finishing 6th and losing in the FA Cup Final would mean we would have to play a further qualifier for the Europa League or am i wrong here?

Posted via Mobile Device Heard something similar while listening to R5 live today, didn't catch it all but they said something about finishing 5th would mean entering at a later stage, didn't mention the outcome of the cup final having any bearing though.

The First qualifying round 1st leg is on 02.07.2009, the 2nd leg on 09.07.2009, so finishing 5th is imperetive otherwise we will be starting the new season around 5 weeks after the FA Cup Final.

Posted via Mobile Device While not doubting those date's Steve i dont think they apply to whoever ends 5th or 6th in the prem, i'm sure even 6th would enter at the 2nd round and 5th at the 3rd, so no need to worry about starting first week in July. Hope somebody can clear this up though just incase we are both wrong !

The 2nd round is slightly later in July on 16.07.2009 and 23.07.2009. I just feel finishing 5th would give us a better prepared pre-season and allow time for Moyes to bolster and gel his squad.

I think Latch is right.

I'm guessing whoever finishes 7th will have to do the earliest, then 6th the next, and 5th the later.

All the teams have a qualifying round no matter what though.

Yes if we finish 5th we go in at 1st round, 6th or losing finalists would mean we enter at the 3rd(& final) qualifying round

It is a sticking point though. You see, the Inertoto Cup has now gone but is merged into the Europa League. Playing ex amount of qualifying games during the summer is something i would like us to avoid.

That means finishing 5th would have us playing a two legged qualifier to be played on 20.08.2009 & 27.08.2009 which would be much more suitable.

5th and 6th(or the FA cup winner if we should win the FA cup and place 7th) will play the Play-off round, 20.08.2009, 7th plays in the third qualifying round 30.07.2009.
