Roberto Martinez discussion

I also think we're dragging some players in to the young/inexperienced bracket who really shouldn't be there. James McCarthy is 25 and has over 300 senior games under his belt. He also has about 30 international caps on top of that. He's absolutely at his peak in my opinion, particularly seeing as his game is based on work rate and energy, which he's unlikely to be able to keep up much in to his 30s. Lukaku also has 250+ games, plus best part of 50 caps for his country. To put those figures in to perspective, Tony Hibbert has played about 300 games for Everton and we would see him as a veteran. You don't have to be old to have experience.
Hibbert has been injured which has severely impacted our defence. I reckon if he'd been fit, we'd all be singing Roberto's praises on here. Everton is not a club that possesses player richness that can buffer the loss of game changers like Hibbo. Let's judge Roberto when Hibbo is available eh?

lol It amazes me how easily satisfied so many posters are, and how low their expectations for the club seem to be.

People can be happy all they want with 10th place in the league, and playing well for 45 mins but unable to defend set pieces. Good for them, if I was happy with that weekends would be so much easier.

Nobody's happy that Everton aren't running away with the league, but most are understanding of our position and the reasons that we are where we are and not champions already this season.

I'm starting to believe that some people on here think the "Top at Christmas" league the RS won a few years back actually exists.

When one takes into account that Everton are not good when playing under the pressure of expectation, I wouldn't call it below average. The goals we are conceding are due to pressure/panic. If we can unburden the players of pressure, (by reducing unrealistic expectation of them), we will cut down on 1 or 2 of those defending errors.
what expectations are they?

And what position would that be?

Ha ha you really think people fall for this? A mild bit of posturing and self praise to cover up the fact that you cannot answer the simple question why are we underperforming on your minimum target? I'm sure a few of your meerkats will be along soon to slobber all over your posts, the clique is good in not showing weakness like that. Now again, instead of slipping round like a greasy politician answer the question.
I'm supposed to get you out of jail by answering that simple question for the umpteenth time in these last two pages?

You've run out of track here. Its hit the buffers. Don't plough into the station.

Hello children of the doom.

When I'm watching two lids go at it in a death match I usually have a note of the amount of likes for their posts below as it's like one of them jarg graphs under a Presidential debate measuring how successful their points are.

@Little Ralphy is being a good brother to @Saint Domingo but this post below from @davek a wee while ago wiped the floor.

That was the knockout blow right there and both parties should have walked away.

Dave's post is one way of looking at it.. the other way of course, is that whilst everyone else around has faltered, we failed to take advantage of a great opportunity to get ahead of the competition, and instead capitulated to the dross at the foot of the table and stayed where we were.

Its a missed opportunity .

classic Davek type post, exaggerate a posters expectation to make them look as they have wildly unrealistic expectations to 'sully their stance' rather than just acknowledge that the past 18 months set of results hasn't been good enough.

Grouping a crap season with this season sort of sullies your stance by making you look unreasonable and myopic though doesn't it?

3 points off the 5th, with a semi final to come a few weeks, having only lost 3 games in the league, whilst playing some scintillating football with some of the brightest young starts European football has to offer, even though we've had an ever changing defence?

Any of that not to your liking Ian?

My expectations every year are for the club to win every competition they enter, I know they won't but it should be the aim, I give Roberto time and I'll judge him at the end of his tenure, am I disappointed at some of the results yes but in most of the games it has been a fine margin between winning and dropping points and I'm happy with his philosophy of trying to play attacking exciting football
There's far too many cry arse sky loving instant success fans about these days

a CL spot. The players know that is just not a realistic ambition. And burdening them with that produces performance anxiety. If we lessen the expectation on our young squad and manager, we might see them go on one or two mini-runs of wins rather than draws.

Nonsense web won 12 in 38 last season just under 33% and we have won 5 in 16 this season just under 33% the trend has continued, therefore it's reasonable to look at it that way. In the same way if last season was as good as the first id be being unreasonable for calling him out just based on this one.
