2026 FIFA World Cup

I live near Toronto. There will be 6 or 7 games in Toronto. I have been checking the prices. For Canada's opening game, the cheapest tickets go from around one thousand pounds. For tickets to a game between 2 TBD teams, they start at around four hundred pounds. Also the Toronto stadium is a cheap stadium where they are adding temporary seats to bring it to forty odd thousand. I really doubt that I will be going.
The game for the people 🙄

You're absolutely right, the role is the issue. It takes a certain kind of person to even want to fill that role. Football needs to realise that its should be a force for social good, not for commercial greed. Unfortunately though, individuals with socialist ideals are neither interested, nor welcome in this particular non-for-profit organisation that has $3.2bn in reserves.

Infantino though has gone a step beyond and even further reduced democratic oversight within FIFA. Blatter was seemingly interested in the money that his power brought. Infantino seems more interested in the power that those with money offer.
The position breeds greed.

Let’s see if your man Mamdani can put some pressure on for affordable ticketing.

I’m swerving this World Cup for the next one where far easier to get to and the countries involved are genuine football countries where football dominates the sports scene.

Feels like this World Cup is sbout making as much money as possible
Not holding my breath, he's more interested in making buses free for some reason

Fully invested for when English get knocked out and the angst it causes on here with gentlemen who like a flag on a lamp post.
to be honest, localism and nationalism at extremes are different sides of the same shitty coin.
Both steeped in the concept of i like this bit of land but i don’t like people from that bit of land.
For me sports, is good way for a bit of national pride… a good use of flag waving and good option to dilute to toxicity.
we can’t have any sign national pride resulting in marching on London against the boats… olympics, cricket, rugby and don’t suffer the same issues.
Not that i am one to get drawn i to a bigger debates on football fórum with with well renowned wind up merchant 😂🫡

How can you laugh when there's people dying all over the world?!?
Hard to laugh when host nation’s foreign policy ready like a Bond villain’s to do list. Certainly no laughing while WC hosts are busy destabilizing planet, liberating people into rubble & complicit in ongoing genocide

Then there are the flights across long distànces & ongoing ICE parade of targeting ‘foreigners’ - what could go wrong

I didn't think FIFA could get anyone worse than Blatter, it wasn't possible I thought, but here we are with that Infantino.

The World Cup is now like one of those school games days where even the kid who finishes last gets a certificate so we don't upset their feelings.

Nothing but greed
Once they get their snouts in the tough all good intentions soon disappear - infantino is no different

195 countries in the world, 48 are competing in the world cup... far more countries don't qualify than do qualify.

Also the term world cup is now a lot more factually accurate, with more nations from different parts of the world being able to compete in the actual finals.

European fans are too snobby imo, we seem to be the only ones who ever moan about lower quality nations being able to compete, as if the world cup exists for our entertainment only. The same thing happened with the club world cup, the only people who really moaned about it were Europeans... Brits in particular!

Yeh sure FIFA are greedy but for me a 48 team world cup is without question a good thing.

There will be a furore when multiple players all break previous golden boot records. Imagine scoring more goals in a WC finals* than in the entirety of the rest of a players international career. What a mess.

Perhaps the world cup should be restricted to 4 teams only, everyone else is just making up numbers.

I certainly get the idea of smaller nations competing and it is great for them. Hopefully, they can do some good with it, not just in a football sense but in a community sense, with all the extra money they will be getting from being at a World Cup.

I am just not on board with that amount of games. It is overload. I get that some will still be into football, and me 10 years ago would have been right at it, watching most of the games. However, I am getting more and more bored with anything above the EFL and Everton/Barrow. Added to my position on how FIFA is sucking the orange fascist off and letting him run the World Cup, it will more than likely be a couple of games, at the absolute best. I will hopefully stay away from it all.
