Televised Top Flight Football/The Death of the Saturday 3pm in England

MNF has to get binned, the wait is just endless and it's not even the same week.
by the time you get to Monday, your just fed up of either seeing results going against you or more days of gaffing about the sky 6

Sat/Sun you have the full crowd

Monday night - as much as the fans want to give it their all, you have a drained crowed.

i feel like sky feel like MNF is their big flagship programme now

the monday game needs binning, kep the programme and the chat and the guest, thats what most people tune in for i reckon, not the actual footy

Theres no regard for away fans either. Newcastle to Wham/Brentford two sundays in a row, and they also had to go to Brighton on a Sunday. Sending us to Sunderland and LFC to Newcastle both on a Monday night.

I don't know why I have to keep writing this, but football does not care about the match going fans any more. You are just extras that pay for the privilege. Football cares about revenue, and that revenue comes from sponsors and armchair fans.

I know this is upsetting, I know this is wrong, but that is a fact. They care more about me watching from Australia (well, they would if I had a paid subscription) than they do about Scouser Steve that actually turns up to the game.

And it is not going to change anytime soon

See, i disagree.

When Monday Night Football was firsr introduced, it was always the BIGGEST game.

It was exciting to be involved. Thanks to The CL, and the managers moaning, its mostly reserved for when CL is on now, and its another excuse for them to chat about the "big 6". With respect ourselves, who othrr than supporting teams wants to watch Sunderland Vs. Everton, Everton vs. West Ham, West Ham Vs. Brentford?

By the time weve played United 50% of our aways will have been MNF. 4 of 13 games will have been MNF...

7 of 13 will have been moved to non-Saturday, with a 6th 8pm KO inevitable when we play Arsenal, when that gets switched.

Wolves away at Chelsea on a Saturday night I thought was a disgrace. I really felt for those fans. Stupidly I watched it when I got back from our game but didn’t enjoy it at all. Should have sat with the wife and watched something together with the kids.

This post has prompted me to restrict myself to one game per week. Football diet incoming.

yet another Saturday with only 2 games on at 3pm in the top flight in england

sky sports showing around 60-70% of the games across each weekend.

increasing 8pm fixtures on a friday and saturday night

who asked for this? who wants this? who is watching this much football?

i know the amount of teams playing in europe adds to this, but is there any reason why on a europa week it can’t just be forest, villa and palace games prioritised for super sunday

i understand of course city v liverpool, but then again why not just have that fixture not on a european week, and why does brentford v newcastle need to be moved to sunday? no one wants that, just keep it on the saturday, that fixture did not need to be changed

villa v Bournemouth and palace brighton are two crackers for TV

tin foil hat on it’s to combat streaming and to ensure the 3pm blackout isnt even an issue if theres only 1 or 2 games on

going the game on a saturday afternoon is what we’ve fallen in love with, seeing the scores at half time and full time, the phone ins after, match of the day in evening. it’s a real shame this is being written out of the game and i wonder what can be done to combat this
consumer boycott is the only way to change this kind of thing.

Can't see it happening.

The only reason there were any games played at any other time was so they could be televised outside the Sat 3pm blackout, which was imposed because apparently televised games would hurt live attendances, and now the majority of games are moved to anywhere other than Sat 3pm so they can be... televised.

Just ditch the blackout FFS.
Overseas market are a factor nowadays though.

What would people think if most games got moved to a Sunday, kinda like RedZone with NFL? I could see atttachment growing for something like that similar to "Soccer Saturday". I know the trains aren't as regular on Sunday, but most people I know have the Sunday off in the UK. I agree fully about the Monday night games needing to be binned. Coincidentally, our next one is on Monday night!

Absolutely.

League football is a weekend hobby. Saturday, ideally, but Sunday if that can't be managed.

Eveyone is back to work mode by the time Monday night rolls round. I absolutely hate it.
