Televised Top Flight Football/The Death of the Saturday 3pm in England

Vaughan

Player Valuation: £20m
yet another Saturday with only 2 games on at 3pm in the top flight in england

sky sports showing around 60-70% of the games across each weekend.

increasing 8pm fixtures on a friday and saturday night

who asked for this? who wants this? who is watching this much football?

i know the amount of teams playing in europe adds to this, but is there any reason why on a europa week it can’t just be forest, villa and palace games prioritised for super sunday

i understand of course city v liverpool, but then again why not just have that fixture not on a european week, and why does brentford v newcastle need to be moved to sunday? no one wants that, just keep it on the saturday, that fixture did not need to be changed

villa v Bournemouth and palace brighton are two crackers for TV

tin foil hat on it’s to combat streaming and to ensure the 3pm blackout isnt even an issue if theres only 1 or 2 games on

going the game on a saturday afternoon is what we’ve fallen in love with, seeing the scores at half time and full time, the phone ins after, match of the day in evening. it’s a real shame this is being written out of the game and i wonder what can be done to combat this

Televised is part of it but so mostly is the size of European comp , Forest & palace played Thursday so are always playing Saturday .

I agree on some of the evening ko’s yesterday . I enjoyed the 3pm

so just have at least one if not two of them being the main televised super sunday games then

instead none of them are and brentford newcastle and city liverpool are getting moved from saturday 3pm, of course the latter always will be but why did the first game get moved knowing there is 3 sides that won’t play saturday

8pm is 3pm in the USA so they get the USA viewing figures

Televising all games wont fix that problem, as the viewing figures come from abroad

It means the quality of illegal streams are better.

I read this like I was listening to Wolfie from Citizen Smith.
Even at the end I heard “power to the people”

But I hear you Bro, the game is now just a money making machine, fans are the last to be considered

From eleven league games so far, we've had four Saturday 3pm's.
Wolves, Villa, m city, Fulham.

My team, Villa, haven't had a home fixture at 3pm on a Saturday in 2025 and are currently in the midst of what will be a 23 game run of televised matches, which is definitely some kind of record for us. I know European competition has a big effect on scheduling but even so, the tv companies are taking the piss big time, with no thought for the matchday supporters......

The only reason there were any games played at any other time was so they could be televised outside the Sat 3pm blackout, which was imposed because apparently televised games would hurt live attendances, and now the majority of games are moved to anywhere other than Sat 3pm so they can be... televised.

Just ditch the blackout FFS.

this might be sound strange but there's part of me that doesnt want us to be successful if it means this.

The majority of the TV audience is abroad, the timings of the TV matches are arranged to maximise coverage, and therefore profits, from the sale of these games. Home fans are given very little consideration when these decisions are taken. Add to this the diminishing number of fans in the UK watching "legal" coverage compared to those using firesticks etc due to the greed of Sky, TNT, Amazon etc charging ridiculous amounts to UK viewers. Will probably only get worse unless this govt appointed bod is given this issue as a matter to review and act upon (unlikely).
