2025/26 Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

we have better to play there

ndyie/jacky baby/ charley baby

I’d have Charly in there to disrupt the team less with the secondary option of N’Diaye on the left jack as 10 and dibbling or McNeil on the right as an alternative option

Charly has shown he can play there and actually worked very well with Beto at the back end of the season …

Also need him to develop as it’s easy to forget he’s on 22 isn’t he?

He needs to start getting minutes

12 tackles and 2 interceptions today apparently? Mental.

Also I like seeing him come deep to collect the ball more. Helps immensely with getting the ball up the pitch.

Looking at the pass maps for pitch position over the last few games and it's quite telling. Against Spurs he was further forward than everyone except Ndiaye, against Sunderland he was further forward than everyone except Barry - today he was deeper than Barry, Grealish, Ndiaye and even Gueye. Not even the furthest forward midfielder is quite a change.

As soon as he signed I'd assumed he'd be replacing Gana as the LCM.

Blew my mind that he'd seemingly been signed to play 10. I and a few others have been saying he should be deeper and even KDH said so himself.

It begs the question, why did Moyes have him in the 10?

Now its all about Moyes. If he puts KDH back into the 10 position then we may as well sell him and get our money back.

If hes going to be used deeper, then as I said in 2023, we'll have a good player.

Yep, but he's never the Gana replacement. He doesn't do his best work in a two man midfield in a 4231.

His best stuff is as a left-sided number 8 in a 433. He has a natural bias to the left side of the pitch and I don't think it's any coincidence that he had arguably his best game for us yesterday in that role.

I think we have to completely dispense with a 4231 now. KDH is our most dangerous midfielder and the shape has to be one that allows to him contribute more.

Garner at full back and a 433 with KDH on the left of that midfield three were the two biggest differences between yesterday and the previous few games.

If both Gana & KDH occupy similar space then it makes sense that KDH could become the Gana replacement.

What you have written above is also what i wrote in the summer and back in 2023. Both Gana and he are left sided midfielders.

We need an actual number 6 as a Gana replacement. Iroegbunam and KDH are number 8s. Röhl and Armstrong are a little more versatile, but both also seem to be comfortable as number 8s, so a 433 seems to be the most natural system for us to play, we just lack a proper sitting number 6. Gana tries to be that sometimes, but it's never been his forte. I wouldn't call Gana a left-sided midfielder. He's played on the left of the two in midfield in a 4231 at times, but I don't think he's naturally attracted to that side of the pitch like KDH is.

What’s strange is he’s basically playing this role in possession already

….folk need to get away from this persistent labelling of KDH as a no10 because he’s not a conventional no10.

There is a narrative driven by @Zatara because he posted Alcaraz will be ‘one of Everton’s greatest midfielders’. We all like Alcaraz but it’s another in a long list of his grandiose and inaccurate statements. It’s more important to Zat that Alcaraz plays than other options help us win, perfectly demonstrated with Doucoure’s winner at Forest.

Doucoure and now KDH are CM tasked with working behind the ball when the opposition has possession but joining in the attacking third when we have the ball. Moyes has openly said he brought KDH to provide greater quality in possession. The two cover similar ground but KDH is on another planet in terms of quality. Like Doucoure, he puts the hard yards in, you’ll see him blocking on the edge of his own area but they’re chalk and cheese.

KDH isn’t a no10, he’s a playmaker in possession and a CM when the opposition has the ball, just watch. Love the quote from the PNE manager to young Harrison Armstrong; ‘just go where you can affect the play’, that’s what KDH does.

Agree completely. Too many arm chair coaches with agendas in our ranks.

Up there with RB with as big a miss this summer.

If we can drop ~60m total on a top class RB and 6 over the next couple windows we'll immediately look so, so much better.

I really rate this lad, and he was immense against Fulham, my one criticism is I wish he would get over his man-crush with Grealish. His out-ball is 90% to Jack and that becomes predictable. Its not like we haven't got a quality player to pass to on the right wing, but he seems obsessed with getting the ball to Jack?

I agree, but I'd also point out that he spends most of the time on the left hand side of the pitch, so Grealish is going to be a natural passing combination there. I actually don't think this is a bad thing, they're both very intelligent players and in this system they're going to be close to each other. What we need to do is to get a similar relationship going between Ndiaye and whoever our right-sided number 8 is (whether that's Iroegbunum, Rohl, Garner or even Armstrong at some point).
