2025/26 Charly Alcaraz

We’d be wide open, and I’m not convinced Moyes can put an attacking plan together to win games doing that

No we wouldn’t. Everton fans need to get over this bizarre idea that we’d be ‘wide open’ playing a midfield three and can’t possibly play any formation other than a double pivot. It’s absolutely ridiculous. If anything we’re wide open at the moment because the 10 is doing absolutely nothing and you can drive a bus through the gap between the midfield two.

There’s a lot that needs to happen to make it work and the players and manager are more than likely not up to it.

Playing a sitting midfielder with two number 8s ahead of them is not some sort of mystery. Moyes literally did it himself with Carsley Gravesen and Cahill. There’ll be Sunday league managers who can organise a 433. All we know for sure is that the current 4231 is not working.

Look I don’t remember 2005 that well but was Cahill not essentially in the KDH role?

He only got bought to be sold for profit. Which is a shame given hes our best number 10.
I think Moyes had his hands tied with the whole obligation to buy clause, so inturn we only gave him a 2yr deal so he could get a proper look at him before possibly extending it.

Your not gonna make a profit on a 2yr deal when next summer is the last 12months, and especially if he isn't getting proper game time.

Bringing a player on with 5 mins to go, is pretty disrespectful..

It wasn’t an obligation to buy. We didn’t have to bring him back.

It would have been bad business to not do it and we are handling it terribly now.

In some ways I envy this level of naivety

….the naivety is thinking the ones out of the team are the ones who will instantly improve us, its usually the case after a few defeats.

We clearly need improving in obvious areas but I actually thought we were ok up to a point yesterday. Undone by a couple of set pieces but we played lots in the top third without truly looking like we’d score.

Moyes used his subs, I thought Barry looked the best he’s been without offering any threat, Rohl was a bit of a mixed bag and missed a decent header, Alcaraz only had 10mins but wasn’t involved.

We’re now looking over our shoulder hoping we don’t get dragged in. We’re getting to that 10 game stage when the table doesn’t lie.
