2025/26 Jack Grealish

I think in the past tense you are probably spot on, but in the present tense maybe he is just in the game to have a kick about and be happy.

Maybe I see it wrong, but to psycho analyse from afar. I see somebody who was maybe not in the best place mentally, despite winning things. I see somebody who has found a place he can just be himself, I see somebody who realises that winning trophies cannot necessarily help with mental health. You see the likes of Pickford, his mentality is that he is home, he is ambitious of course, but he has found a place where him and his family are happy and that is the most important thing.

To maybe overdo the psychology stuff, you see Scottie Scheffler in golf talking about the good feeling of winning not lasting that long. It doesn't mean as much as maybe wanting it. The wanting it drains you and the pay off is minor, compared to the work and effort needed to get there.

Long story short, happiness is more than just winning things and hopefully Grealish is at the stage of his career where he just wants to be loved for who he is, not what he is. Us Evertonians are giving him that in spades.

Who knows but he was willing to leave his boyhood club for success. If he felt a club was not at least heading in a good direction and maybe not looking at bringing in the calibre of players he wants to play with, then why would he stick around?

Don't underestimate players willingness to succeed and win things. To even become a professional footballer, it takes a hell of a mentality as a youngster, plus a lot of sacrifice and a lot of dedication. He may just seem like a bit of a lad but there's a huge ambition there. He was willing to move away from City to essentially get time on the pitch to prove to everyone that he is an excellent player and probably to fight for a world cup place, not just to be happy playing.

we need to give him something to believe in, in terms of the club heading in a great direction. Of course, he's not the be all and end all, but having quality like him can often be the catalyst for getting more quality interested in coming.

What I am hoping is that he is somebody who says 'I have done that now, it is time for something different'. I sort of see that in him, in terms of the way he is speaking. He will have hunger to win things but I suppose it depends on the balance of that hunger to what is most important to a lot of people, mental health and family.

It is all guess work at the moment, so it probably should be more a case of let us enjoy him in the now and what will be, will be :).
