The European Dividend

Id be grudging at a top 10 finish as a minimum aim if im honest, id be disappointed with that, for what we have invested and the manager we have.
Oh yeah, I want more than a bare 10th. But if we did get that it'd probably be seen as progress...depends on what we also do in the FA Cup I suppose.

But had Ellis Simms upfront in a relegation run in, and started a season with Roman Dixon getting minutes and you hollering every game ‘no excuses Sean’ ‘don’t let us down Sean’. You even tried to argue at one point that off field events don’t impact what happens on the field.

100 million plus later and all of a sudden you’re all for a lower mid table finish, stability, and have developed an acute awareness of the impact of external factors on how a team can perform. What a damascene conversion it’s been Michael, welcome to the light,

Well Moyes has Beto as our only viable striker and no right back on the books. He’s going to be forced to play your fave Michael Keane every week because our best centre back has melted. But hey we’ve invested £100m into the squad to replace the 10 players that left (some of our peers who we’re expecting to finish above have invested double that)

Moyes took over the same squad that Dyche had achieved 17 points in half a season with and got 30 odd points in the same amount of games. I think he would get more points with this current squad than Dyche would get with it.

NO EXCUSES SEAN

11 points from 8 so far, continue that and we're on track to get 52/53 points this season. So, we're there or thereabouts on track for that 55 point level.

So, therefore, shouldn't be any complaints of our current position right?

Id see it as a failure if im honest mate, i think we can have real competitive ambition this season.

I dont want to be in a position were we've dropped 15 mill on a year of Grealsih and another 100+ mill on others with no tangible competitive outcome - id prob accept a run for our money.

We should expect improvement though mate, bar Grealish and KDH - none on our new signing have really contributed much yet, they will surely improve as the year goes on and contribute more.

It's definitely an opportunity, it's part of the reason I was so disappointed to exit the league cup so meekly.

We fell off a cliff when we qualified for Europe under Koeman - much like Nottingham Forest.

Mid table will do me with our injury crisis plus no class fullbacks ATM ...

Injury crisis?

We've been fortunate. Even now, in the league, only Man Utd have less players out than us (2 - Branthwaite and Patterson).

As for mid table, we've finished there the last few seasons - after a record club spend in the summer, I'm hoping top half.

So you want more than 10th but think we should be targeting 55 points.

Which was 11th last season.

10th would “probably be seen as progress” because it would be progress.

We finished 13th last season, 15th the season before and 17th before that. So 10th would be quite clear progress.
