2025/26 Thierno Barry

Mate £30m is nothing for a player now. I know that sounds mad but its true, its hard to get bargains anymore. If we want to sign good young players with a high ceiling for potential were going to have to pay the money.

Also barry is inexperienced imo he was playing in the swiss league just over 12 months ago.

Hes also only played 231 minutes of PL football (less then half what betos played), hes scored 0 goals but got a xg of 0.46 meaning he hasnt had many opportunities to score.

Where beto has scored 1 goal and has a xg of 3.15 meaning he's consistently missing chances.

Simple fact of the matter is he hasnt played enough for anyone to make a decision on the lad. Let alone write him off.

Personally i feel if he had a run of 10 games starting then by the end of those 10 games there would he no doubt that barry is our number 1 striker. And i doubt we'd be any worse off for it as a team
None of that really relates to what I said to be honest. Making out like people are expecting him to be world class is daft, they just want to see him look like he has plenty of promise, and so far he hasn’t, it’s as simple as that really. Like I said, it doesn’t mean he won’t come good, but it’s undoubtedly disappointing that he’s looked decidedly meh from what we’ve seen so far. The bar to offer more than Beto is extraordinarily low, and yet he’s not managed it. By all means pretend people are comparing him to R9 and that we didn’t pay a relatively high fee for him if you want, but pretending is all it is.

It literally completely relates to what you posted.

You taked about him not being inexperienced i talked about his inexperience.

You talked about how often youve seen him play i talked about his minutes played in the league and xg compared to beto which is the comparison you made.

I talk about the 30m price tag you brought up.

It all directly relates to the post i replied too.

Ironically its your post that doesnt relate to what youve quoted me as. And also taken seriously a obviously tongue and cheek reference in a completely different post to people expecting him to be the next R9.

Well it wasn’t ’a completely different post’, it was the post I was replying to and literally the entire point of the reply!

The fact that you didn’t realise that explains why I’m saying your reply didn’t really address it. I’m not saying he should have scored loads or whatever, I’m just saying he hasn’t looked great so far in general (and in that context only counting league minutes is a bit weird too).

Again, it’s not about saying he’s crap and writing him off, it’s just saying that for a 23 year old bought from a top league for relatively big money I think it’s fair to expect a little bit more than we’ve seen so far. If I was sat here thinking it’s not really clicked but he’s clearly going to cause problems with his pace, or aerial ability, or movement, or quick feet etc etc then that would be fine, but so far I just haven’t really seen anything to buy into and that’s disappointing.

Id go back and check if i was you because my reply is completely relevant to your post and the post you quoted makes no reference of R9 in it sooooooooo... i dont know what to tell you.

Again £30 isnt relatively big money when you look at the money spent on strikers in the last summer. Liverpool spent £220 on two strikers, Newcastle spent £70m on one, United spent £70 on a striker, arsenal spent £60m on a striker, chelsea £60m, galatasaray spent £70m.

Bayern paid £15m for a striker on loan. Hojlunds loan fee was probably around the same amount we paid for the down payment for barry. I mean bloody broja went for £20m.

Barry was the 18th most expensive striker signed in the summer. So i dont think we paid alot for him personally if you look at the price players are going for.

I still think he deserves a few starts in a row to actually try find some rhythm with the team, purely because I know BETO isn't good enough, and I don't know for sure yet, that this lad can't be, coz he hasn't had the minutes.
Yeah it is exactly this. He needs the confidence and we need him to work out.

Gents, let’s cut out all of the good intended arguments for either or neither of our forwards coming good, look at the cold hard evidence .
Neither have scored and look like scoring. Indeed one, (Barry) looks like he doesn’t want to be here. Both have shown that they cannot play up front on their own but we don’t change the system for either of them.

So we have them we have tried both and failed but not from the start with any sort of support so where is this issue lying now?
We all know strikers cost a hell of a lot more than what we have paid for these two jokers and we can all see that they are not working and yet other so called smaller clubs are picking up forwards who score?

Is the problem not then on recruitment?

Callum Wilson leaves the magpies for West Ham on a free and still can’t get a game yet walks into our team.

For Gods sake our forward line is so bad Antonio who has just recovered from a life threatening car crash and he starts before the two of our jokers and still we have no forwards in the u21,19 17,16 teams coming through.

If they are their why not try one on the bench instead of the extra keepers.

Our issues are not the players, it’s the team that are picking them.

…a very bold post.

He 'deserves' an extended run in the side now simply because his only competition is so bad — it would be appalling if Moyes persists with Beto now unless there are serious issues behind the scenes with Barry such as a bad attitude, terrible in training, etc.

I genuinely believe playing neither of them would result in more goals, but for some reason the manager doesn't want to try it.

Try something innovative? Moyes?
