2025/26 Thierno Barry

I was firmly in the camp of giving him a guaranteed run of say 6 starts after Beto had another shocker. But game 1 of that 6 game run he did absolutely nothing at all. Beto came on and was typically chaotic, but at least ran around like a lunatic, unsettling defenders who for 45 mins thought we were playing without a striker.

It’s really tricky for Moyes. He isn’t going to get better unless he plays, but when he plays, he offers nothing with or without the ball and honestly looks a bit lazy. What manager can withstand playing an underperforming player game after game, putting pressure on himself. Beto has some verifiable history of going on a crazy run of goals in the PL. Any manager would have to go back to Beto. And so the cycle begins again.

To give him some leeway, both he and Dibling trot around the pitch like the last thing Moyes has told them is “don’t worry, no pressure to do anything good, you are still getting used to it all.” And they are both waiting to accidentally get into matches. Very little movement, very little involvement, sticking pretty rigidly to one area. Whereas Merlin looks to have signed for a new team in a new country but tries to play the way he would in any other game, to the best of his ability, full speed.

Do Barry or Dibling play games like they want to force the manager to start them every week? Or do they look like they have been given 6 months to just dip their toe in the PL water?

'should be giving barry 10 games straight to show what he's got' Honestly ?? If you can't see the lads totally out of his depth in the English Premier Lge against quality defenders that just wipe him out, both physically and mentally, God help us! Can't you see, he's a nervous wreck and he's been found out in no time.

Weird seeing as he showed he can play well against Brighton (being influential in both goals) and looked good against liverpool when he came on.

Think lots of people are massively over reacting because he had a bad game against wolves in the cup tbh.

He needs to play and he needs time to settle.

Evertonians in the summer are always so reasonable when talking about signings. Hes a young player, needs time to settle, one we can develop. We all agreed on that in the summer.

Then if their not R9 4 games into the season people want them shot in the streets.

This season is about evolution and developing players for next season imo. We'll comfortably finish mid table and we'll have good games where it all click and we look boss and we'll have games where it doesnt and there'll be everything in between.

Theres no need to panic, its all good. We just need to chill out and get behind the team. Obviously criticise when applicable but theres no need to write off any of the new signings imo.

…..he was awful against Palace and Beto helped turned the game. We know Beto’s failings but at least he’s competitive, Barry will have to earn his game time which is something he’s failing to do.

It’s not a matter of which of them is better, it’s a matter of least worst.

The whole side was awful against palace in the first half i wouldnt be pointing any fingers there.

Also beto was better then barry that game but he didnt turn the game it was alcaraz that did that. Beto missing a point blank unchallenged header didnt make me think "ah, theres a man thats turned this around".

Its not about which of them is least worse its about at the end of the season who'll of improved enough to be our starting striker next season. I feel like that will be barry and with consistent games he's overtake beto faster.

There’s no need to panic or write people off but by the same token it is fair to say that you’d really like to have seen the striker you’ve just spent the best part of £30m on show a bit more than he has so far. I’ve seen him about a dozen times now and he’s barely done a single thing that’s been worthy of note which I have to admit I find slightly concerning. He’s not that young or inexperienced that we can just say there are no expectations at all, he’s a proper first team signing.

….Beto is at least competitive, he’s unsettled even the better CBs at this level. He immediately had an impact against Palace and was part of the reason the game turned. Alcaraz clearly had the greatest impact, but all 3 subs helped change that game.

I’m sure everybody wants Barry to be the answer but he looks way off that at this point in time.

Beto is bad but not as bad as Barry. Hopefully at some point that situation will be reversed.

Mate £30m is nothing for a player now. I know that sounds mad but its true, its hard to get bargains anymore. If we want to sign good young players with a high ceiling for potential were going to have to pay the money.

Also barry is inexperienced imo he was playing in the swiss league just over 12 months ago.

Hes also only played 231 minutes of PL football (less then half what betos played), hes scored 0 goals but got a xg of 0.46 meaning he hasnt had many opportunities to score.

Where beto has scored 1 goal and has a xg of 3.15 meaning he's consistently missing chances.

Simple fact of the matter is he hasnt played enough for anyone to make a decision on the lad. Let alone write him off.

Personally i feel if he had a run of 10 games starting then by the end of those 10 games there would he no doubt that barry is our number 1 striker. And i doubt we'd be any worse off for it as a team

Beto isnt competitive this season though is he?

He was last season but hes stopped doing what he was good at last season and not hes easy to defend against.

Hes just been playing against a old, injury prone midget at cb and ake had his slippers on all match.

Bit of a difference for me. Beto at least trys. Barry does not and i will keep saying it, till he looks interested. Thats just the actual factual truth. I am not having he's young etc, he is 23 in a few days - not 18. He should be doing way better than he is and make moyes think "I am your Number 1" . All this he cost X amount etc does not matter

….for me he’s not at the same level as last season but he’s still providing more than Barry.

Barry was so poor against Palace that he had to be withdrawn, sadly I don’t think it gets much worst than that.

Pity we haven’t got any other options.

A 433 seems to suit all of our central midfielders and would also suit Alcaraz (who has played there before for Southanpton).

Its borderline stupidity by Moyes to keep using KDH as a 10 now.

Thats a fair comment. Although i'm not seeing much value in his direct off the ball contributions either unless its his 'positioning' to cut off passing lanes...

...which is necessary but can be taught and coached into others.

On the face of it, is that what he was signed for?

Not as a 10 imo. Theres no on the ball effectiveness aside from playing 'pass the ball to Grealish and receive it back' which slows the game down...

...thats the opposite of what we should be doing.

Why do you think Rohl would make a good 10? I have no thoughts on this either way...i just see Alcaraz as a 10 rather than KDH.

Has Rohl done well as a 10 in the past?

I think Iroegbunam is the Gana-lite bench player to come on when we need to tighten things up.

Gana out and KDH in would make us more attacking and would mean Garner would have to focus on more defensive work - but he is that player.

I think its worth a try BUT i'd say a 433 with a new DM (or Garner) with 2 CMs (KDH + Rohl/Alcaraz) would be worth a try over this current mess.

100% disagree with this.

I think KDH at 10 weakens the side compared with Alcaraz, who at 10 gives the team a threat and provides better service for Beto.

If we restarted this season with Alcaraz at 10 I think we'd see a few goals/assists next to Alcaraz (and/or more for other players) - certainly more than KDH's 1 goal and 1 assist in the league.

1 goal and 1 assist for a 10 at this point of the season is poor.

No.

Barry did not play "well" against Brighton. What you mean is he didnt stand out looking "[Poor language removed]"
