2025/26 David Moyes

Literally every Premier League team plays their squad players in the league cup. Otherwise they would never get a game. If you look at the team sheets you'll see players you didn't know existed. It's pretty much the only point in the competition. I think Moyes learnt quite a bit last night about how paper thin our squad is, and how limited we are in forward areas and midfield.
The issue wasn't playing some squad players. It was the amount of them he played.

We've made great progress under him but we haven't got the squad depth or quality to be able to just rest nearly all of our best players, and in key positions.

He's rested Pickford, Mykolenko, Gana, Ndiaye, Dewsbury Hall, Grealish (and i'd personally add Beto to that as I see him as the better option than Barry). 6-7 of our best players whilst we also have Branthwaite out. A team like us simply can't do that and expect to win.

That defeat was almost entirely on Moyes last night and his attitude before, during and after has been a disgrace. And I am one who is happy he is our manager. First massive frustration for me since he's come back.

A few changes is fine. But resting everyone of your best players when they don’t play for nearly a week is a joke.

You know what you get with Moyes, a safety first approach. That may have worked once with Mourinho/Chelsea but that was a long time ago (and with a club with a lot more money/better players). To win games now you need to have an attacking mentalilty and Moyes will never have that. I know he doesn't have the players but regardless of that he will always be acautious manager. He's ok in the short term, but we will never win anything with him in charge. Hopefully the owners realise that.

Im not particularly angry im just really really disappointed, it felt inevitable once that team sheet came out I think the majority of us expected it and it delivered in true Everton fashion .

Someone rightly said our attitude towards these trophies is as much why we’ve failed to win one as the abject nature of our football .

30 years , THIRTY, since a trophy and we treat the best chance we’ve got of winning one like a pre season friendly .

Like I say disappointed and sad , although actually maybe I am a bit angry after all

Yeah, Moyes deserves a bit of flack because Coleman at LB was a strange move but the team put out last night had players who were starters last season and winning games (Alcaraz and McNeil) with highly rated young players like Dibling involved. It was a good enough side to win the game and the players just didn't turn up. I'm very disappointed in players like McNeil who had the opportunity to show that they deserve to be part of this squad and to repay the faith the manager showed in them to start last night and they embarrassed themselves and him.

That team selection was horrible, when I saw it I had an idea what was to come and didn't bother watching. I checked bbc football on my phone at 10 pm and realised I'd made the correct decision. Now...that's fine for me, I was sat at home and intending to watch on my moody fire stick, what about the thousands of blues who had already traveled to Wolverhampton when the team was announced?

"No real reasons" to completely upturn the team that won 3 weeks ago. ffs.

More or less saying he can’t be bothered with a cup competition.
We’re not playing in Europe, challenging for the top spots, probably won’t be in a relegation fight but he makes so many bad changes in a team finding its feet in a competition we desperately needed to challenge for. Very poor from the manager.
