Watches

As an engineer I never cease to be amazed by the workmanship involved in those watchex but I have quite conservative tastes regarding watches. I like to be able to see what time it is right away and not have to study the dial of the watch to discover where the hands are.Among my other dislikes are Roman numerals, pastel coloured dials, bling watches ie Rolex etc watches covered in diamonds. Sorry if I’ve offended anyone.

Lol, no offence taken, mate... 😉

Despite the watch I wear daily having roman numerals I am with you on this one (it was a present and has great sentimental value to me). I much prefer arabic numerals, and also being able to read the time quickly, without having to decipher the dial.

Well, if you do decide to get a watch with Roman numerals, check to make sure that the 4 says IIII, and NOT IV.

If it does, then you've probably looking at a cheap knock-off...

There's a whole story behind it:

GMT watches aren’t for me either. I’m not an international jet-setter or an airline pilot. Spain is only an hour in front, so I can work that out in my head. California dials are another no-no for me. Just why ? Watch snobs also. I have everything from one of those little Casio’s you can buy for £7 up to a vintage Sub. I wear a G Shock a lot of the time.

Ah, so then I take it that pocket watches are also out of the question, mate?

You know, put on a bespoke, vintage 3-piece suit, together with a walking cane, spats, cuff-lings... Like a true 'Dapper Dan'?
And then wind up the watch, set the time, attach it to your vest and head out about town for another day of proper debauchery and shenanigans?
😂😜

Why no bling Ming, not your thing?

Not really. Too ostentatious for me. I like simple, classic styles.
But wouldn't something like the Breitling Navitimer, which also serves as an instrument to help perform complex calculations, assist you in some capacity as an engineer? 🤔

I’ve always fancied one of those. The only thing that puts me off “ Breitling “ is the links in the bracelet. I don’t like how they are staggered downwards. You could always wear it on a strap I suppose. I already have a couple of chronometers. A Speedy and a Zenith El Primero black and white “ Rainbow “.

my mate at work has one of these on a brown leather strap, it looks rather good.
