2025/26 Beto

He had the touch of a Jumbo Elephant today - never recovered from that early miss of ki king the ball onto his left foot when it should have been the opening goal for us inside ten minutes..
He worked hard & Barry looked no better replacing him -
Perhaps Nydaye at 9 as he has played there before & either Dobling or Alcaraz in the team & keep it on the deck - Michael Keane has more idea than our proposed CF & that's a worry atm !

Crikey that takes me back.

Thankfully some things never change on GOT like writing off new players before they have even played a full game and @Bungle being bungle ;)

Went from welcome to house share in 2 posts, been a creepy [Poor language removed] for longer than I realised.

….BBC;

Beto is an honest trier as a striker and his attitude cannot be faulted, but he falls short of the class Everton require to turn the creation of Grealish and Ndiaye into consistent end product.

He's not a great finisher and not the back to goal CF that Moyes loves.

However the reason for the solid goal output is that he does find a way to get himself into good scoring situtations.

Beto needs the ball slipped through for him. Even if he has been working on his back to goal play, that hasn’t changed. We only did that once, and he took a touch instead of taking a shot. That will come with a bit of confidence, but we do need to use that aspect of his game more.

Barry is a young striker with one season in a top 5 league before this one; he will come good. All these people who are moaning about strikers are confusing me - I'm not sure what they expect right now, with where we are and what we could attract/afford. Your only really options are punts from minor leagues or kids - we've done that. Beto will score goals, despite deficiencies in other areas- he has shown that. He will score over 12 goals this year. To score 13 he only needs another 11 over the course of the season. If we get our heads up a little more in games, he could score quite a lot.

Not excusing the aspects he is poor at, but we do need to try and maximise what he is good at. Moyes did that when he first came in, and should get doing that again if he is going to play him.

We all know Beto is limited but he was a signing in the dying embers of the Moshiri era. Which represented relegation, no money and taking whatever we could!

Grealish, DH, Dibbling etc are the players of a new era under TFG, which reflect quality, hope and having money.

Beto, McNeil and others are cross over players as we move away from the Moshiri era to TFG and will likely be replaced in the next 12-18 months by quality replacements.

For me Barry now deserves his chance.

The way he played today he would have tripped over his laces....

I don’t know which news agency writes the recaps for ESPN, but they must have had Beto ATTS at the bookie. They were savage:

However, had the hosts had a number nine with better anticipation and sharpness, they could have had the match won before half-time.

After just two minutes Beto kicked the ball against his own leg from Iliman Ndiaye's cross, setting the tone for what could generously be described as an untidy 75 minutes.

In fact the closest he came to contributing to a goal was when he headed Jordan Pickford's clearance back into the path of Emi Buendia, who tried to embarrass England's goalkeeper with an ambitious low shot from 45 yards, only for the ball to swerve past the upright with Pickford still trying to make his way back between the posts.

Yeah, he wouldn’t have even been able to trap a bag of cement today.

But everyone has bad days, so hopefully it was just a temporary glitch.
We’ve played 4 games he has had 2 shockers in 3 starts, that’s not a temporary glitch. Anyone who thinks he’s going to turn his ability around over night is off their heads. Just have to pray someone wants him in January

Yea mate, we definitely do need a more prolific striker to lead the line, but until then, I'm going to try be a 'glass half full' kind of lad. 🤷‍♂️
