2025/26 Tim Iroegbunam

Agree, big fan of his attributes. He has way more natural ability than Garner but we didn't look solid in the middle today until Rohl came on. Without doing that much we became very dominant when he was on the field which is a very good sign. He needs to learn pretty quickly how to play centre mid at this level.
Tim is great when we instigate a press and he’s quite press resistant himself with the ball, good at reacting when in possession.

It’s the calm moments in the game where he struggles. When the opposition have controlled possession he can find himself a passenger and likewise with us he has no idea how to dictate tempo (there was a pass first half with no jeopardy and he tried firing it to Jake - straight out of play).

When the games frantic he’s alright. He just can’t involve himself when it doesn’t directly involve him.

He struggles every time he gets booked too, can’t get tight anymore.
Good point, that. He gets real tentative on a yellow. I don’t get that at all from Jack. I’m just glad Tarks didn’t get booked for what I thought and the commentators were saying was a great tackle. I worry his reputation for playing hard-nosed football gets him unfairly targeted by the refs.

Agree. When he is forced to play on instinct he can do elite things. But when he has time and space he seems scared to take the hand brake off. He had opportunities today to turn and drive forward but he played safe. I think his positioning needs to be improved too which is why he gets so many yellow cards.

Game bypasses him too often. He’s like that kid at school who’s brilliant at lunchtime but never gets in the local Sunday 11 a side team.

Elite is a word that nobody has ever used to describe Tim. His highlight reel video for us would be thirty seconds of that game against Bournemouth at the start of last season.

Honestly feels like one of the anonymous late 90s midfielders we’d get in.

He does do some really fantastic things when under pressure, stuff that doesn’t come around very often in a centre midfielder like him.

It’s the basic stuff he’s struggling with though - which is a much bigger problem.

I thought he was mostly fine. A couple of bad moments sure but by and large didn’t do much good or bad. Just a fine game. Nothing like the disaster people are making out.

The yellow was one of those ones where you can’t get bypassed and he had one poor pass which was really a poor decision on which way to go. But that’s not really the end of the world.

Gana was unleashed today to chase the ball so Tim’s job was basically to not be noticed. Hold his spot and keep us sturdy. We were on top for most of the time he was on so I can’t really subscribe to the idea he was terrible.

We’ve seen him really struggle against Leeds. This wasn’t that.

You're wrong mate. He can do great things with a football. He just can't figure out how to play his position at this level.
