2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

As I said, if a senior player put in the same performance they're not winning player of the match. People see what they want to see with young players. I'm not saying he's bad, he might become amazing. I just haven't seen any evidence to justify the hype yet. He's clearly way down the list of players to start or come on or he wouldn't have been sent on loan. We'll see how he fares at Preston.

You must have seen him more than me because I have seen the talent yet. With players like Barkley and Rodwell it was obvious very quickly.
It would seem you’ve seen very little of Armstrong from your comment of an average player in a poor team at Derby and your repeated “ underwhelmed “ comments. I watched him last season at u18/21, cameos at England u18 where he made a delightful assist after 3 mins on the pitch and maybe 5 or 6 games at Derby. He was was the outstanding player in our Youth Team’s Youth cup match, Derby fans and their manager continually praised his performances to the extent they and other championship teams wanted him this season, England rate his performance so much that he’s gone from barely being recognised at u18s level initially to u19 captain.
It would seem that just about everybody has watched him more than you and formed a different opinion.
All you are doing is continually repeating the same phrases about 10 times a day.

Armstrong has gone to Preston at age 18.
Osman went to Derby at age 22.
barkley went to Wednesday at 19.
All 3 on loans.
Puts into perspective Isaac Price going to Liege on a permanent at age 19.

Playing in what was a struggling team - he also scored one & Derby's appearances picked up with him in the team they even sacked their first manager -
Absolutely! He's a decent championship midfielder. Which is an absolutely enormous credit to him at age 18 - that's very very rare and reason to be hugely excited about him as a prospect.

But again it does mean that right now he is a decent championship midfielder. We would not be very happy about loaning in any other decent championship midfielder for the season and giving them regular minutes.

Maybe by next season, age 19, he'll be a slightly below average prem midfielder. Which, again, would be insanely good for a 19 year old. All I'm saying is to be patient and not expect too much from a kid while they're still a kid.

He wasn't actually MOTM though. He was only given that because he's young. I'm expecting him to absolutely dominate at Preston based on how highly rated he is in here.
Well he won't dominate games because unfortunately we've loaned him to a very average Preston team.

I'd much preferred to have kept him at BMD but if we were going to loan him out I'd liked to have seen him at a team that will enjoy more possession and play better football.

He will be the best player at Preston by some distance.

I don’t have any opinion other than he hasn’t proven he is anywhere near ready for the premier league anytime soon. Which is obviously the view of the coaches since he’s been sent on loan. That doesn’t mean he won’t be ready next year or develop into a very good player. I just haven’t seen strong enough evidence to justify excitement/hype and after 45 years supporting Everton I’ve seen all sorts of youngster hyped up as the next big thing from an early age who haven’t gone on to do much in the game so I always reserve judgement until I see something meaningful in a game against decent opposition. I remember a lad come Browning coming on and doing well for 10 mins in the derby and all the reports were that he was highly rated, best 1v1 defender at the club etc. and people had him pencilled in as our future right back. He vanished without a trace. Anyway I want him to succeed as much as every other fan. I’m just not going to overhype him or say he should be playing ahead of players who are clearly much better than him at the moment I.e Tim Iroegbunam who was also capped for England youth teams.

My opinion in a nutshell. Thank you.

….his efforts at a struggling Derby were quite remarkable given how precarious their position was and not forgetting it was his first taste of open-age football. To have the maturity, attitude and quality to be a regular starter in that scenario speaks volumes.

I don’t think the decision to send him out again totally reflects where he is in the pecking order. I’d imagine he’s seen as having a much higher ceiling than Iroegbunam, but the acquisition of Rohl was the deciding factor.

We are now in a position to pay £20m for a player further on in his development, I think the club will have a very close watching brief on Armstrong, they’ve tied him down on a long-term deal because they know he could be a talent.

He was a free agent and the championship is a better standard than the Belgium league

It's a big move at 19 moving abroad, he went and got some football and has been snapped up for £2.5m by west brom in January. Experiencing fitting in with new players in a different culture is a brave thing to do. Seems west brom love him. Is 22 in two weeks. Already has 24 senior NIR caps. Cushion volley he scored the other night was class.
