2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

Armstrong is going to be a fantastic player. I watched three Derby games last season and he was head and shoulders above anyone. Moyes indicated himself in his last presser that it was a tight call on whether to keep him or send him out. Ultimately he’s decided that 90 minutes at a really good level once or twice a week for at least the next 12 weeks will speed up his development more than 20 minutes a week at the top level. It would be interesting to know when we’re allowed to recall him tho because if Garner, for instance, got injured on Sat and we weren’t allowed to get Armstrong back till Jan at the earliest, it could easily be a choice we’ll live to regret.
He stays if Rohl doesn't get signed. That just about pushed him out the door and I'm fine with that. Hoarding young talent is never a problem. He impressed me enough with his cup tie and now he will get consistent time on loan. Rohl is more likely to make an impact now so it was the perfect move and he is the right profile of player.

As I’ve said before, Tom Davies captained England u21 (which is a significantly higher level). It means very little. It’s better not to get so carried away by young players based on hearsay and little evidence.
Tom Davies picked up a very bad Injury & also captained EFC - he got his chance big time - did he ever go out on loan ?

Apparently we're obliged to sign Rohl unless we are relegated, hopefully this obligation will be satisfied.

No but I don't think anyone would hold him up a youth team success. Lots of the best young players go out on loan. It's weird that you have such a bee in your bonnet about it.

He has a bad injury record played 15 games last season shows promising progress so far in training we have to sign him as its part of the deal ...

Preston manager's comments on Armstrong signing:

"He's young in age but he's mature in terms of his mentality, how he wants to succeed, his performances are already mature on the pitch," said Heckingbottom.

"It's not one where it's like a last minute, take the player - we like Harrison and we wanted to get him and beat a lot of people for him, it was just a case of will Everton let him out?"

The 18-year-old made 15 appearances for Derby in the second half of last season and will be looking to build on those minutes at Deepdale.

"When he played at Derby he played deep, he can do that, get on the ball, break things up and compete defensively," said Heckingbottom.

"I think we can get more out of him in terms of getting on the front foot and press high and getting in the box, we want goals from all over the pitch."

Yes Davies was a good young talent and the goal v city put him on a pedestal, that some fans hung their hats on for a good few years, some managers thought the same, but it was obvious he was quite small and slow and was never going to be the player he was at youth level. Armstrong is basically built for the modern game and has the talent to go with it
