Beeb noticing Everton…..veiled hit piece or genuine reporting….

I don't agree with that, I don't think. I think there are some short memories here in terms of our ownership situation, money available, talent available. We were in crisis last summer. We had a net spend of +30 million, in some ways got a bit lucky investing a relatively small amount on a player whose value was at its lowest (Ndiaye).

It's easy to forget where we were and how we got to where we are now.

Indeed.

Imagine the summer just gone if we again had to make a profit like all the summers before it, with an AWOL owner - we'd have been bang in trouble this season, even despite the two previous seasons points total.

Only so many times you can go to the well.

I felt we'd be bang in trouble the last few years based on the squad we had - mainly the final third and inability to create/score goals. I think you'd have to be a real misery guts to still think that now. I mean, compare our final third now to previous years!

It is that piece of shifting scenarios.

In Dyches time here we were on our backside, no money, us against the world, selling our best players, no investment - its easy to forget how bad it was. You also forget he had 6 months left on his contract and he was never getting new one - he knew it the players, knew it and the fans knew it because of that I think he lost all authority and position became untenable.

Im Moyes's biggest fan - but would he come in here in Jan, if Moshiri was still the owner and had to deal with the austerity, adversity and limits faced by Dyche - i dont think he does - lets be honest, he came because TFG made the commitments we saw actioned in the summer.

Agree. There's obviously a reason why Dyche was appointed Everton's manager, something he admitted first interview. If better managers were available/willing - he doesn't get the job - they weren't. Even Bielsa legged us, wrote us off and wanted to manage the academy team until the summer

You have a point there.

Maybe he didnt need them 10 players afterall and a record club transfer spend, spending more than the previous 7 years combined after all if he could get what he did get out of the last lot what he did:lol:

Well 10 players left didn’t they? What is the point of this post?

Not reading it tbh. Is it anything to do with that Giulia Bould? Used to think she was alright until I read a couple of bits by her on the BBC recently. Firstly, she reckons Seamus is still Moyes preferred right back, and secondly, regarding Pickford, she stated that ( slightly paraphrasing) 'It's a much had debate amongst Evertonian's whether Pickford or Southall is their greatest ever keeper.'

I mean, saying it's a much had debate is just fiction, and it's not even up for debate is it? Pickford is boss, but Nev was one of the greatest ever in world football.

Another piece.

'Everton could become a formidable side this season and, just as importantly for the fans, an entertaining side to watch. For the first time in years, the home crowd’s roar has been driven not by anxious relief at full time, but by genuine excitement for what’s to come.'

Someone will find a way of saying this is a "hit piece" and part of a shadowy anti-Everton conspiracy too!

Nice to see us being spoken of in positive tones in the media for a change. Long may it continue.

I enjoyed that article.

I can't see how or why anyone thinks it's anything other than a nice piece about the positive vibes surrounding the club.

The most negative thing in it was this quote from Osman:

But if you take a step back, mid-table would be a really good stride forward. David Moyes will manage those expectations.

And even that is more positive than he usually is about us on co-commentary duty.

It's just nice that things have improved and there is positivity.

This time a year ago the Friedkin takeover has not been announced, we were battling down the hatches for another relegation battle, there was no money, and little to no hope, apart from the new stadium. I thought that whilst it would be completed, we might end up as tenants.

I think it was September 23rd the takeover was announced and December 19th it was completed.

There has been a huge amount of change since then. Pretty much all of it has been for the better to date.

We have a lot of work remaining - it will require another 2 or 3 or windows in my view to turn us into a club that could aspire for Europe each year.

But I can't really fault TFG thus far. Not really. The test will be if we can improve year on year - both on the field and off it. I view success in relative rather than absolute terms these days but we have to aspire to achieve Champions League qualification. We have to be a disruptor in this league and then maintain it - I'm looking at clubs like Atalanta and Atletico Madrid as examples.
