Not sure I like this Beeb sport article, and what it seems to insinuate.

However, maybe I’m just sick of kopites infesting the media wanting to keep plucky old Everton in their place and I should pipe down and embrace this new media relationship with us, you tell me.

for context, over those 8 season including this one, our net spend was c120-150m.

Or rather 15-18m a year net.

I don't agree with that, I don't think. I think there are some short memories here in terms of our ownership situation, money available, talent available. We were in crisis last summer. We had a net spend of +30 million, in some ways got a bit lucky investing a relatively small amount on a player whose value was at its lowest (Ndiaye).

It's easy to forget where we were and how we got to where we are now.

Not sure thats unique to us though, I imagine its true of any club they can link some sort of rivalry too. The majority of media people are RS, incapable of being neutral and enjoy mentioning them whenever possible.

I think we're 7th-12th if we're not unfortunate with injuries.

Maybe he didnt need them 10 players afterall and a record club transfer spend, spending more than the previous 7 years combined after all if he could get what he did get out of the last lot what he did

I don't think it makes enough of the pre-spend turnaround for one thing. Secondly, it all well and good looking at the net spend of the big hitters, but if they had expensive players to sell then the difference is not that great, they can spend a fortune with a relatively low net spend compared to us who had virtually nothing to sell this summer. Not that I have really calculated those other clubs but I imagine they brought a few quid in.

We are not perfect yet by any means and it is a long season but we have a number of really good players now and we can look forward to watching this develop.

Well that wasn't a reality last summer. We had Dyche because we still had Moshiri.

Mental we let 188 million of fees walk out the door with no recovery, including their wages, agent fees etc, and probably had the worst leadership team in terms of finance and compliance in the league, people who couldn't read and understand debt covenants.

You know what is a real sickener? Because of the nature of the focus, because we squeezed £1.5m out of Nice for schneiderlin, his £22m fee is removed from that sum.
Let's see...
JPG - knee quad, £25m for 6 games was it and walked with a golden handshake for the last 12 months of his deal.
Walcott - a fat sam special. £20m signed, went on a free after a short loan.
Tosun - a fat sam special. £27m signed, saw out deal and walked on a free to Besiktas.
Bolasie - £25m - ACL injury, cant criticise that, no player wants such a bad deal. Walked on a free.
Mina - £28m - stalwart for country, not quite so regular turning out for club. Walked on a free.
Gomes - £22m - Walked on a free after a large contract here.
Mr Iceland - £45m - (although the £5m in extras probably wasn't realised) for off field reasons got to the last year of his deal and couldn't be played or sold. Bad medicine all round here. Eventually walked on a free.
Niasse - £13.5m - oh dear, hardly even a football player. walked on a free.
Williams - £12m - walked on a free.

Note; £30m Keane could have walked for free this summer.
Like schneiderlin, we got a small piece of business done shipping Allan out (£22m signed ~ £2m sold) McCarthy (£13m signed, sold ~£4m)

Some really really bad business in there. Horrendous stuff.

Think we're light in midfield and obviously full back - Rohl might be anything though,......

If we stay clear of injuries particularly going hard in Dec, i wouldn't be afraid of anyone from City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Norway down - and they wont fancy us themselves, especially at home.
