Beeb noticing Everton…..veiled hit piece or genuine reporting….

Earned the points to be 20+ clear the last 2 seasons.

But until the club themselves, and fans stop talking about relegation- we won't shift that media narrative.
If we'd been 2 points off the top mid April 2024 after a 6-0 win fans would be talking of a title chase - unfortunately we were 2 points off relegation so that's what people focused on because that was the reality.

As is the reality we finished the season closer to Europe than relegation.

Sprinkle in the reality new owners/ability to spend to address our problems was always coming this summer, and relegation shouldn't be talked up.

Not sure I like this Beeb sport article, and what it seems to insinuate.

However, maybe I’m just sick of kopites infesting the media wanting to keep plucky old Everton in their place and I should pipe down and embrace this new media relationship with us, you tell me.
Damned with faint praise ...

Yes it does! 'The biggest challenge facing Everton this summer was how best to overhaul a threadbare squad following the departure of nine senior players, including first-team regulars Abdoulaye Doucoure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Harrison and Ashley Young'. Has anyone actually read this thing before they came on crying about it?!
Ha-ha, I did read it but somehow missed that entire paragraph.

It's fairly benign compared to the usual Beeb stuff. Nice to see us getting some attention from them that isn't just the usual 'they're nearly RELEGATED, they should really be RELEGATED, they're RELEGATION fodder, why haven't they been RELEGATED yet?' cobblers.

Don't know why I did the caps there. Too much coffee.
The truth hurts.

For several years we were nearly relegated.
For several years we were relegation fodder.

Some of our fans have incredible levels of paranoia.

And pre-conceived biases.

Based on the subtitles:

Record Spend to Overhaul Squad-simple fact, net spend highest as we didn't have a squad at the beginning of the window
Exciting Times for Everyone-it is, isn't it?
Why Everton Can Spend Money-because we didn't for 4 years, ownership change transformed the cost structure
Grealish the Signing of the Summer-We've wasted a bunch of money in the past, this summer seems better
More Leaders in the Dressing Room-I think this is a good thing?
A First Trophy Since 1995?-If anything, this is the only negative part of the article, saying our record belies our performance (which to be fair, I think it has)

Last summer (2024) after finishing 20+ points clear of relegation, our manager started talking about avoiding relegation and his fans on here nodded along and said they’d take 17th.

It highlights how even though we were seen as 'spending a lot of money' over the Moshiri years, it wasent as much as others during that time.

Mental how we got punished for building a stadium

Mental we let 188 million of fees walk out the door with no recovery, including their wages, agent fees etc, and probably had the worst leadership team in terms of finance and compliance in the league, people who couldn't read and understand debt covenants.

Yes mate, we were relegation fodder. We've spent a club record amount this summer and no longer are.

For a long time it was about getting to the new stadium as a Premier League club with new owners. We made it. Lucky us.
