2025/26 Merlin Röhl

Early days and time will tell but surely this is the strongest midfield we've had since the days of Cahill and Arteta, and I also think we have more strength in depth in the midfield than we've had for a long time. Gana Gueye, Garner. Rohl, Alcaraz, KDH and Armstrong, wide positions we have Grealish, N'diaye, McNeil and Dibling. That to what we've had previously is an embarrassment of riches.

Assume next summer likes of McNeil are replaced. As we look to improve the quality.

yeah that is what is exciting i like mcneil and has done a good job here and some real big moments. Is why still has a chance if is to have a future till jan atleast, but is great now the club is looking to move players on as we look to step up

Anyone else think that this "finch farm mole" is now just a figment of their imagination after they're rooted it out?

They can say random stuff like this and it can never be proven one way or the other

"Our finch farm mole confirms that Grealish had Caesar salad on Wednesday 🙏🏻"

he is nauseating

Anyone else feel sly on Charley?
Not really ahould get alot of game time here stil think he could be used as another option in the midfield. Should be using the squad if several players not on it be great having him come off the bench. Or even start games, i like the lad has something you cant really teach as just seems more natural getting in the goals. When you compare to dcl who wasnt

Not at all. You shouldn't just get in the team because you happen to play for us, you should have to earn a spot. too long have we had mediocre layers waltz into the team just because there's nobody else to challenge them.

no of course, i was kind of being tongue in cheek anyway

just got a bit of a soft spot for Alcaraz. NDiaye aside he was vastly superior to any of our attacking options last year but barely got any starts because of the transfer clause it seems (and the Doucoure conundrum) and then it seemed like he'd finally won Moyes over with his performances away from home against Forest, Fulham and Newcastle. capping it off with a Tim Cahill esque goal.

I would have been quite happy with him being our starting 10 this year, had we say got in the likes of Dibling, Barry, a Douglas Luiz type and bolstered the full backs. i would have been satisfied with that as a starting XI

what i didnt expect was us to get the likes of Grealish and KDH who are much better and rounded players than him, and then Rohl who is also highly rated and seems a Moyes style player, and someone bought in to appease his wish for a Soucek style player

now I think he'll barely feature, which is great because i think if Alcaraz is getting limited starts it means we'll be doing well as the other attackers will need to be firing on all cylinders to keep him out. I just really rate him and think he brings something that others in the team don't. I think his ablity to break the lines in transition, his ability to pci ka through ball and his long range shooting is a combination of skills no one ese at the club really has, except maybe KDH

Think he could still be a great option to have away from home. And also it's great for us to actually have options and players for different games and scenarios. Past 4-5 years we've just had to scrap together a side that could somehow get us a result. it's not since the Martinez 13/14 season when we would have players like Osman, Naismith, Deulfeou, Pienaar etc who wouldn't start every week but were used ofr different games and circumstances to great effect

to some extent yes but Barry, McCarthy, Barkley was a stronger midfield than we have now, with the likes of Osman and Gibson as very able deputies

I don't think you cant count the lieks of Ndiaye and Dibling as midfielders in this day and age

Maybe so, but for me they are wide midfielders as well as attacking players, Barkley McCarthy and Barry was a very well balanced midfield three. For this team I want two in the middle and three behind the striker. Bit of a different formation from then I think.
