It’s not that uncommon for extra props to magically grow legs and disappear off a set, once the movie has been completed. Especially back then. It's to early on a Saturday morning for 'should', I've not got it in me. Rumour is it was owned by one of the prop guys, but I can't confirm that.
Film props are a fairly new phenomenon, the fact the vader sabre was in all 3 original films makes it kind of special. Can see this sort of stuff becoming like fine art, a fantastic investment that holds or better acquires value.
Yeah, that's part of the mystique here, new hope 77, empire 80, jedi 83. Someone held onto and reused the same prop in light of the success and the hype of the time for 6 or 7 years? I'm questioning the provenance here. If it had been prized out of Lucas' cold dead hand then maybe, but Phil from props that smuggled it out hidden down his trousers 42 years ago? I've got questions! It’s not that uncommon for extra props to magically grow legs and disappear off a set, once the movie has been completed. Especially back then.
Exactly… The cameraman or the best boy might decide to keep a momento from his time on the set.Yeah, that's part of the mystique here, new hope 77, empire 80, jedi 83. Ford gave the Indiana Jones whip going up for auction to then-Prince Charles at the 1989 UK premiere of The Last Crusade. It was given as a giftRight up there with Indiana Jones' hat or whip. Movie freaks are all over that shiz.
re this, can understand the kick back against corporate america, can also see the Mangioni aspect and empathise with the cause.2019![]()

It is - there was a few pounds more of him back in the day by the looks of things.Damn! It doesn’t look like they skimped on the special effects, based on that!
And was that William Forsythe I saw in that trailer?!
I'd guess he just liked keeping busy or maybe there was a touch of being a big fish in a smaller pond allowing him a lot more creative control on set.Henriksen made a load of these around this time, 'near dark', 'johnny handsome', this. How did an actor that was such pals with Bigelow and Cameron end up with so few options.
I reckon he's smart enough to know that he needed a foil to make a good film with, someone approaching his equal, he'd seen it in Terminator with Hamilton, he was integral with Weaver in Aliens, there has to be someone or something with some chops to make the viewer care about the jeopardy, to be invested in.I'd guess he just liked keeping busy or maybe there was a touch of being a big fish in a smaller pond allowing him a lot more creative control on set.
I can agree with all that. I've only got a very vague memory of No Escape so I'll have to revisit that.I reckon he's smart enough to know that he needed a foil to make a good film with, someone approaching his equal, he'd seen it in Terminator with Hamilton, he was integral with Weaver in Aliens, there has to be someone or something with some chops to make the viewer care about the jeopardy, to be invested in.
There was a film out last year, 'Mad props', seeing as I've just had a moan about Vader's light sabre elsewhere I might try n catch it.
I suppose he did sort of get there, maybe he was being farmed out as a name for hire to boost crap films, but he ended the spell of rubbish with the slightly camp and so-so actioner 'hard target' (93) the under rated 'No escape' (94) a bit part in 'the quick and the dead' (95). Maybe it's work for works sake and keeping the bills paid.
I hadn't realised/remembered he was in 'Close encounters', so with Terminator and Aliens has a pretty hi stock in the sci fi world.
'Hard Target' is ham, a great big hock of ham. Van Damme couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag. Vosloo camps it up as well. Henchman for hire and Schwarzenegger lifting (Hess) buddy Ole Thorsen is there as Damme fodder. For a film so loaded with automatic weapons, there's not a crack shot in the bunch. And our hero would have to move faster than Mr Anderson (Neo) to beat a bullet with a flying side kick. (I wonder if this scene was an homage to the knife vs gun face off in the original 'Magnificent Seven').I can agree with all that. I've only got a very vague memory of No Escape so I'll have to revisit that.
But.... Van Damme at peak mullet, a 1993 Yancy Butler and Wilford Brimley playing Cajun. That ain't so-so.
