2025/26 Michael Keane

Delusional would also be ascribing Tarkowski’s struggles to the presence of Keane.
When in fact Tarkowski has been declining for some time now. He is still an effective player , but I think his body is beginning to fail him a little.
He will need replacing next season.
Keane is doing well at the moment and is part of a winning team.
Definitely agree on this. So much so, in fact, that I'd be playing Jake over him if we're able to bring in a right back. JoB & JB has great potential as a partnership for years.

JT has been atrocious with his passing so far this season, and Wolves' first goal was terrible from him. Chan was two yards away from him when Keane had been pulled wide to cover Mykolenko... by the time the cross had been made Tarkowski has no idea at all where Chan is and is taken completely by surprise when he now appears behind him to tap home.

Mate, wtf has this come from? A "proper" right back? What's happened to your boy Patterson?!?
Seems Patterson is surplus to requirements mate (Sevilla loan), which suggests we should be signing a proper, recognised right back to replace a proper, recognised right back.

If Patterson isn’t leaving then we should play him at rb and move JOB to cb with branthwaite so we can get your boy Keane back to where he belongs, as the so called 4th choice cb, away from the starting 11.

Fairly obvious really, do keep up sausage.

…..fully justifying the contract decision by allowing time for Branthwaite’s recovery and hopefully the acquisition of a new, effective RB today. Looking very composed and assured, did very well in the lead up for our 2nd goal on Saturday, hopefully that form continues until he steps down.
I personally thought it would be a wise decision to keep him (can check my recent post history) and you're right—it is proving to be a smart move. Professional lad, clearly liked around the place, no doubt a good role model, and can definitely still do a job, etc. You need a lot of these types amongst the squad. These will be the very same reasons why Seamus is still here.

And looking at the signings, it's clear we've tried hard to retain our Everton identity by not bringing in players with questionable characters: Röhl, Travers, Dibling, Grealish, Dewsbury-Hall all seem exactly the type of players we like to see represent us, and although I don't know enough about Barry or Aznou, no doubt they are too.

Pickford was at fault too for that goal imo
A comedy of errors

Luckily it didn't really cost us

Keeps this up he'll get an extension and will be again well deserved.

Long season though but Moyes man management and M-Keg's resilience should be lauded.

It's always been a confidence thing with Keane, if he can manage that then he's a valuable part of the squad.

I don’t disagree, but just to play devils advocate…would form not suggest that Keane keeps his place and Tarkowski is dropped?
Had this discussion about this time last season too. I do think Moyes will ultimately default back to JT-JB but I think that would be very generous to Tarkowski and harsh on Keane.

I think Tarkowski gets given the benefit of the doubt that whenever he plays badly alongside Keane it's somehow Keane's fault and I'm not a big fan of that narrative at all - ultimately he should be accountable for his own performances no matter who else is around him.

People can make arguments about how well Keane is playing or how poor Tarkwoski is playing or there’s an agenda against Keane until the cows come home.

When OBrien Tarkwoski Branthwaite Mykolenko plays we concede less goals than when OBrien Tarkwoski Keane Mykolenko plays. Significantly less.

One is the rogues 4th best defence over a consistent period. The other concedes about 2 per game.

Interesting how when Keane plays, the defenders around him nearly always play significantly worse, isn't it? And like you say we concede more when he's plays.

It's like the old joke of a terrible driver saying they've never had a car accident but they've seen dozens in their rear view mirror.

Happy we're winning with him in the team, and fair play he's done well. Long may it continue.

But I can guarantee the rest of the defence can't wait for Branthwaite to come in and replace him
