2025/26 David Moyes

That analysis doesn't tally with the Leeds game where he had us sitting off them like they were Real Madrid rather than a pony Tyke outfit there to be snotted.

We were leaking blood before the game mate, no left full, no Branthwaite, Grealish just in the door and the squad not finalised. The midfield weakened to compensate.

Away game, under the lights at newly promoted teams near pit.

There is brave and stupid.

We should have won the game to, they got a result against the run of play.

It's pretty obvious what happened there Dave. We did what a lot of clubs would do in a game like that; you go out, you do nothing silly early doors, and try and take the sting out of the fans and players flying out the traps. We weathered the storm, but then just couldn't get going ourselves. It happens. We just didn't get going. There's no chance Moyes was happy at half time, even though it was still 0-0. There was an improvement second half, but not to the levels needed.

It was a very tricky fixture that. We've seen the difference Goodison can make. Elland Rd, whilst not in the same league as Goodison, can be a tough place to go on the best of days. Never mind first game back after promotion, moved to a night time kick off. We were looking to take the sting out of them early doors, but we performed poorly as a team, and never got going. I don't believe for one second the manager was looking for the performance we delivered.
Maybe, but it's way too early to judge Moyes to be a reformed character who goes for wins rather than settles for draws.

The tide had been turned after the break. It was a game at that stage I'd have been disappointed to have drawn never mind lost.

I'd like to see more evidence of the claimed free-wheelin' new version of Moyes.

But he oversaw that.

He clearly didn't look for that performance, but that's what his team delivered. You can't simply give him all the credit for a good performance at Wolves and absolve him of any culpability for the Leeds no-show.

Moyes has done very well since he came back. Long may it continue.

But I'm not absolving anybody of anything. It was one game. I judge managers over a longer period than that. It won't be our last bad performance of the season, that's for sure. It's just what happens if you're not a top, top team. It becomes a concern when it's happening more often than not, and besides, I wasn't really talking about culpability, I was just saying there's a reason we sat deep early doors and I don't believe it was the manager's intention to try and scrape a 0-0. The fact we couldn't get going is obviously on both him and the players, as ever thus, but it's gonna happen at times. Hopefully not too often, but we've seen no real signs that it will.

Not bad for a team that never wins in August.

Feel there is a huge change in him since he came back, in his first stint he could be risk adverse in games, maybe that was inexperience or maybe he was always maintain his profile for a big move at some point by maintaining plucky low resourced Everton.

Since hes come back though, he knows he has limited time, hes going at games, at some points in the first 10 mins of Wolves and Brighton we had 8/9 players in the opposition half. Hes going for the throat and want to achieve something and fast.
Yep, the number of players we have in the box is at times is pretty startling and great to see. Early days but we are actually starting to play like a top team.

He has done well since he returned. We are well past a fluke new manager style bounce, and we have a better squad now too.

I was really delighted with our intent and attacking play against Wolves. It bodes extremely well.

It will be a challenge for him with the issues in defence, that would be my main concern. As he said himself the two goals conceded at the weekend were not characteristic of an Everton team. He was right, even in bad times we have offered much better resilience than that.

It's a concern that the lack of cover there may return to haunt us. I do wish more could have been done there and would not be surprised if we ended up looking to bring in someone unattached.

But all this would be to dismiss how we've looked and played since January. It is worlds apart and with the likes of Grealish and N'Diaye there is reason for real optimism. Need some luck too, especially on the injury front.

Once again you are very fond of dyche who it was very firmly established, had clear intent to draw games instead of winning them 😂
Because he was dealing with a massive firesale, and in the teeth of a PL campaign to kill this club.

How do you not see that Dyche did a fine job here under the circumstances?

Wait till they realize we are going to lose MULTIPLE games this season.

Heads will roll.
