Future recruitment team & strategy

Brighton is Brighton.
Brighton's strategy can never be Evertons, Everton's strategy should realistically be (now BK has gone) about how to get back to winning stuff. That is not Brighton.
Everton should see itself arriving at the point, and beyond, where a 17yr old Rooney wants to stay and win and where a Richarlison doesnt become a bail out.

When Everton finally wins again I really hope we are saying it started with the signings and keeping of the likes of Pickford and Branthwaite. Ie we were able to keep our best players (and when they do leave it's not the sky 6 they go to).

Be interesting to see what the Man City guy brings in terms of ideas and contacts etc, etc. Scouting strategy could be interesting as if we do sneak into a Euro position we will need a certain quality and may need to raise the quality of some already here. Interesting season for us this.

Merlín mentioned that we were keeping tabs on him for over a year and it got me thinking that this transfer window still had the fingerprints of red Kev all over it. (and I think he was very effective with limited resources and did us great service)

One of the new guys involved in recruitment (not sure his name but think he was ex-City) was on gardening leave all summer and didn't/ couldn't contribute.

Think I read somewhere too that the Friedkin's bought a data analytics company on football performance.

Having worked in executive recruitment, I'm surprised we didn't go after some of the crew from Brighton or Bournemouth as they have not had a Petro State backing them and have been very creative in identifying emerging talent globally years ahead of the competition and flipping them for huge profits.

So what should we be expecting from our new recruitment team?
A Right Back ?

I think future windows are going to look very different, and our strategy will change from next year to year 3. We all know the strategy this year was fill the most voids and build the best possible foundation on short notice.

Next summer I suspect it will be a focus on filling the remaining voids, and finishing the foundation of what they think can be a squad that challenges for europe. It will have similar goals, but less hectic and less players.

But then I suspect we change tactics in 2027. The job of rebuilding the squad will be considered largely done, and instead I think our focus will move to two types of players. First, buying young, talented players for cheap, to develop. Second, buying just a few players a window, but bigger stars. We wont be looking to sell as much as a Brighton, instead we will try to build a team to compete with the top 4 and do that with a few elite players, subsidized by finding good cheap young talent with the analytics and developing them in house. Thats my fantasy anway.

The key will be what happens when one of the players they've brought in turns out to be very good, and is sought after by a currently more successful club. Our potential is to be one of the top 4 clubs in England, the question is do our owners believe that?

Future windows need to be planned, 3-5 years in advance, we should know what, when and profile we need every year for a minimum of three years ahead.

To put it very simply, recruitment and improvement is easy - just make consistent good decisions, the result is incremental improvement and raises all boats progressively.

Bravo.

There is little in life than cant be achieved if the probability of it is earnestly believed and you work towards it in an organized and inteligente manner.

The man city guy as you call him worked here for ten years with Moyes before following him to united mate

This is also pie in the sky stuff though. It’s not reality.

The second part is mostly a fantasy. Which stars moved this summer? Eze? Gyokeres? Isak? Cunha? We don’t have a prayer of signing any. And it’s not even just about Europe. Sure getting in the CL would be great and that would give us more of a shot. But you also have to pay for that level of player.

Look at Grealish for example. He’s making 3x what anyone else in our team makes. That’s how you get those guys. That’s why United still get basically whoever they want, for better or worse. We aren’t that far away from being a team that can compete for Europe again, but we are so so far away from signing “stars” at their peak. The strategy can’t be that.

The way into Europe is for players like Dibling and KDH and Rohl to take off and become star players. Some of them may stay, which is great. Others won’t and when they leave, you take the profit and find the next Dibling and KDH and Rohl.

The real star players want Champions League football, which will be very hard to get on a regular basis. Better to stick to the plan.
