Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning everyone,

I'm delighted to report that at last it's tipping down and we might actually get some meaningful, useable rain.

Sad to say that I've let things slip a bit recently and been drinking too much. Not ridiculous amounts and still some alcohol free days but with the lovely weather , relaxing in the tropical garden , watching the cricket , out for meals with friends and family , watching Everton and dealing with stress of Granny I've definitely been way over the recommended units . However these are all excuses and easy to find and rely upon.

So I've decided to go alcohol free for September. This will be really difficult as the cricket presentation night is on 26 September so I started on 30 August so that I will have done 4 weeks by the 26th so that's acceptable I think.

This coincides with the return of the table tennis season and a big fitness push down the gym so it's healthy eating at the same time. I'm hoping to drop a couple of kgs ( those of you that know me know that I'm not really overweight) to make sure that I fit into my holiday clothes as we are off the Greece to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary in October.

Last drinking was a big family party last Friday . I took 12 of Mrs J s family to the local restaurant and then back chez nous for some proper drinking. Good night and a nice way to call a halt for a month. With one thing and another, not least the fact that we live 45 minutes outside Liverpool her family hasn't visited for some time and were amazed at the garden transformation. The grandkids liked the jungle , especially as I hid some toy animals for them to find.

Anyway enough confession time from me . No gardening today but I have a list of jobs to do before we go away so better start then.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Morning all, it’s definitely feeling very autumnal here in the NW. We live on a street that has a primary school and it’s so cute to see the little ones in their new uniforms that they are obviously going to grow into. I hope it goes well for Harry @Gwladysover, going to college was the making of our son, he absolutely loved it. Just waiting for the gas man to come and service our boiler. Every year they tell us our neighbours air conditioning unit is too close but we never do any thing about it. I mean this is Wigan - air conditioning???? who does this really

Well done on your health drive! If you get desperate I can highly recommend corona zero, Guiness zero and Captain Morgan’s alcohol free spiced rum. You kind of feel like you’re having a drink

I've had 0%Peroni and quite liked it . However we don't serve it at the cricket club so Guinness zero will be my default option at the Cricket. I've had it before and it's not too bad but in all honesty it still has loads of calories so I will incur the ridicule of my friends down there and have a cup of tea instead on Saturday.

Good man jazzy cutting back. I aim for 5 days alcohol free during the week and if I can stick to that then I do feel better both mentally and physically.

Of course, all bets are off if I’m on holiday .

Morning all on this cloudy one here .I hope all are well and had a good night .I went to the hospital today for the results of my chest bloods and peff test to find it was a phone call appointment ! Anyway I told the doctor we were outside and that I had had rib pain since I started my new inhaler so she sent me for an X-ray ,in and out in ten minutes ,half an hour later the doctor phoned again to say nothing has changed but my hemaglobin is a bit low and that it just might be temporary so they will check in a couple of months when I have my cholesterol test .So still up but not running ! She also recommended yoga or pilates for my asthma ,that will be fun .
Have a great day all COYB

I hope everything turns out well for you Blue. I’ve taken up arm yoga which involves sitting on a comfy seat in the pub and lifting pints of beer to my mouth……

We spend most of our time in our south facing conservatory/ kitchen which despite blinds can get warm , so Mrs bl started talking and investigating air conditioning. Having Jenny the kitten hasn’t helped as at times we’ve been unable to open the windows or door. I feel the cold , heat doesn’t bother me and dislike air conditioning blowing on me so I said we should investigate ways of keeping the heat out first like different blinds which make a difference in other parts of the house. Long story short , we’ve got a guy coming in next week to measure up and quote for internal shutters in the conservatory. Things are definitely changing temperature wise, a few years ago we had the central heating on in July !

Nothing wrong with a cup of tea, refer them to me and I’ll have a word…. ;)
