Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Moyes seems to have wanted to focus his efforts and our resources on creativity this summer and it's hard to argue. We've been a tough watch for a good while - probably since Koeman (with the exception of the solitary James Rodriguez season).

A lot of time and money has gone into fixing that problem and I think I see the logic.

Right back is clearly a priority for next summer, but I remember Moyes saying last season that he felt O'Brien was a good prospect but he defended a bit like a young defender and right back was a good way to get him on the pitch and in the team, getting more experience. If we had signed a right back, O'Brien would be on the bench this season, so there's the possibility that Moyes thinks it's important O'Brien gets minutes. Similarly, because so much of our resources went on creative players, I expect the well was a bit dry in terms of finances/PSR wiggle room to get a right back of sufficient quality. The loan with obligation for Röhl hints at that.

I don't love any of our right back options. In fact I don't love any of our left back options (without having seen Aznou yet), and I'd hope they're a focus next summer in a new PSR cycle.

We were a very, very tough watch that season. Weird how that has been completely rewritten. Most of the football we played was eye gouge-worthy.

I should have probably been more specific with that and said "the early part of the James Rodriguez season". The football that came later on would have made Dyche blush.

  • Takehiro Tomiyasu: Right-Back / Centre-Back, 26, Japan, Previous Club: Arsenal, Notes: Versatile defender released due to injuries; high potential if fit. Free since July 2025.
  • Good age, Right Back/Centre Back; keep him fit and this could be a great signing.
