There are quotes from both his manager at Freiburg and the Germany U21s coach from the last year saying how impressed they’ve been with the development of his defensive game, so maybe the thought is that we could play him deeper?

Not unusual for players to start with a more attacking role before dropping back as their reading of the game improves and they put on a bit of muscle.

And he's been on the bench a lot this season, and came off it on Sunday, so I would consider this move unlikely. Freiburg don't have tonnes of money and I cannot imagine them risking an injury to a player that is subject to a big bid from the PL.

Well I'm saying it because he has been the subject of doubt for a while. Lots of talk of him needing to improve and not living up to his ability, fell.out of favour last season and finds himself on the bench this season.

There is definitely a player there. Just referencing that there are major question marks over him. And he's not a DM at all - which is what we need.

Maybe so. Or maybe he is looking to convert him. Much rather have him than Soucek. Definite player in there. Just doesn't look like what we need from what I've seen.

As a half German, I definitely want a really good German to play for my beloved Blues, so have a vested interest in this one working out! But he really doesn't seem like what we need.
