2025/26 Tim Iroegbunam

Knew the haters would appear. He did fine. We dropped way to deep and didn't retain possession well enough. The same thing would have happened with Gana on the pitch. We need to be a bit more composed with our clearances and find a player.
His positioning is poor, has a tendency to follow the ball a little too much and leave gaps - he got caught out in the build up to the second goal. There’s nothing there that screams Premiership midfielder, there’s physicality yes, but in terms of actual ability to read the game he’s miles off it. When the rest of the team is moving forward it’s not great that after 12 months with us it’s still difficult to say what his best role is, what his strengths are.

I'm not going to blame Moyes for bringing him on as you have to be able to rely on your squad to close things out and get the job done. 11 players can't survive the season alone. We do need Tim to come good and that will be on him to improve. He clearly has the talent and shows it here and there. Hopefully he brings it in the next one.

Random thought but would be fascinated to know what those inside the club think of Tim. Quietly seems like maybe they rate him more than the fanbase do?

We basically never got linked all summer to a high-workrate tackling machine to long-term replace Gana
He was never really linked with a move away either on loan or a permanent
I know it was a mini injury crisis but they were happier to start him in midfield than they were to do something like McNeil at LB and keep Garner in midfield

Maybe they think he could come good this season. Or maybe they think he's at least a cheap body when we need a few of those lol.

I'll make a comparrasion with Doucoure with Tim, neither seems to really know what's going on around then or what they're gonna do before the ball arrives.

Both also have really good physical qualities which means at times they can fool you into thinking they're gonna be boss, in those games it clicks, just don't think you can teach what he's lacking though. Thi k in a slower league with not time to think he'd look pretty good, just think this leagues too fast for him though sadly.

Thoughts on him today?
Was alright until he got booked.

Game goes completely when he gets a card. If I was a betting man I’d put money on him every start to get a booking as well.

He was terrible positionally at times though, the game can bypass him when the opposition have comfortable possession, doesn’t know how to close lanes down well at all.

Doucoure was streets ahead of him positionally though. Tim is way too easy to play through/around for a guy with his physical skillset.

Worst game of the season though, he’s been largely improved until today so happy to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Agree, big fan of his attributes. He has way more natural ability than Garner but we didn't look solid in the middle today until Rohl came on. Without doing that much we became very dominant when he was on the field which is a very good sign. He needs to learn pretty quickly how to play centre mid at this level.
